눉-people always quote prices in euros but they are actually in lei which means that the price might be different when you get there if the FX rate moves. I think they should just tell you the price in lei. We could pay euros for the hotel but all the meals are charged in lei. -it didn't bother us but the church bells goes of at 6.30 every morning so no place for a long a lie in :)
눇-Great little homestay in a part of Romania you should definitely try to make it to! -We had one of the rooms with a bathroom and the room was nice and clean -the food was good at 20lei each for breakfast and 30lei for dinner. I would definitely recommend having dinner at the homestay as there isn't much around -the hosts speak little english but that was no problem, the family is very friendly

눇For this 28.05-04.06.2016 trip, my conception was to use a BICYCLE for fully discovering the unique Maramures cultural monuments (mostly the 8 wooden orthodox churches, dated from 14th to 18th century and all recognised by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage; also the big, richly ornamented wooden gates - traditional entrances into individual properties). So, I researched a place which would be CENTER-WEIGHTED TO ALL THESE MONUMENTS, with possibility of RENTING A BIKE RIGHT ON THE SPOT and with option for VEGETARIAN food. PENSIUNEA MARAMU in the BREB village perfectly fits all these criteria. I never got any single problem with the bike I have rented during the whole week. It was modern, hi-tech, lightweight, in excellent state, with front shock absorbers and reliable disc brakes. And I have really exploited it much, covering daily distances up to 100 km and clearing mountain passes up to 1000 m of altitude. The hosts were allways very open, kind and helpful; however, to take full profit from the contact, for those not speaking Romanian nor Italian, be sure to have with you your electronic and/or paper translators; same for all Maramures province: English is not frequently spoken. The food is of outstanding quality: all from own cultivation, home-made, tasty, aesthetically presented, generous, regional & vegetarian on request. The hosts are even making their own, delicious wine with intense fruit aroma - not to mention the typical, strong (50 %) alcohol named Tuica ("Tsuica"). Cosy Breb itself has not less wooden gates than other, bigger villages and frequently they are better preserved and more discretely & pleasantly situated, then those mentionned in the guides for motorised, mainstream tourists along big, necessarily a bit dusty roads. Just let yourself slowly vagabond inside Breb in any direction.
