Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United Arab EmiratesAside from the broken shower head that they immediately fix. (Im amazed) The room i got was a bit far from the main. I should have been moved to Freddie room as im one of his big fan 😅🤣
The promptness of the staff. I would highly recommend Abdul rauf Ali for being there with me attending all my request and questions. He deserves a big recognition. He is the star of Tembo and that had a great stay! Id travel in many parts of the world and I can say that he is the best.

AustraliaThe wifi here is a bit slow but ok for email etc. The pool could do with more lounges and the upper deck needs umbrellas, as it’s just scorching concrete when the sun is out. Would’ve loved a cocktail by the pool, too, but understand alcohol is not as common in this area.
This property is in a great beachside location. Close to the main park and a short stroll to all the highlights of Stone Town. And it’s around the corner from the Freddie Mercury museum. Pool is fabulous but unfortunately the upper one was under renovation (to make it bigger!) The restaurant serves the basics which can be had in the outdoor area or restaurant. Staff here are friendly and welcoming and we had a great stay.

SwedenA pity that the pool wasn't kept open a bit longer in the evenings. Also a bit of a disappointment for the kids that the pool facing the beach was under construction.
The rooms and the entire hotel are so beautifully furnished and decorated, not to mention the most pretty bathrooms I've ever seen! The view from the balconies facing the Ocean, the fantastic pool at the very center of the hotel, the hotel's location right on the beach while at the same time with a walking distance to everything you wish to reach in Stonetown. The breakfast was excellent with a broad variety of choices for all tastes, and the staff members are professional and welcoming. We will definitely be back!

United States of AmericaHaving to stay in the outlying buildings meant being harassed by taxi and tuk tuk drivers everytime you walked to your room and also people trying to guide you to their restaurants or shops. The beach access was nice but the same experience as leaving the front of the hotel, guys trying to sell you goods or boat trips. The infinity edge pool was under construction and it was quite loud and distracting during meals. The braced roof was also a little disconcerting since the restaurant is directly under the area being braced.
The location of Tembo House is perfectly located in the tourist center of Stone Town and is a short walking distance or tuk tuk ride to any of the tourist sites and many restaurants. It is located on the same street as the upscale resorts of the Park Hyatt and Serena Hotel. The hotel has many different buildings within a couple of blocks and our building, while located a couple blocks away from the main hotel, had its own pool and game room with a pool table and foosball table which was great with kids. The family rooms were large with 3 king sized beds. The air conditioning was great after staying at a beach resort without it for many days! The included breakfast was varied and delicious. The lunch and dinner menu had a good selection and good prices. The main pool was large and refereshing with varied depths appropriate for any age. The smaller pool in our building was a single depth of 1.4 meters which was a little deep for small children but was fine with floaties. The staff was always available and very friendly and helpful.

United Arab EmiratesRestaurant is slow to make your food 30-45 minute waiting period. Either the chef is slow or the waitress don’t check up on the order often. This was off peak times. They don’t sell alcohol. Don’t wake up too early for breakfast they do take time in setting up.
Location, setup, convenience.

SwedenThe breakfast and the lunch was on a lower quality. Typical for a slightly larger hotel. The beach is full of persons that wants to sell things and there are a lot of boats. You can swim but it is not plesant.
Well located in the heart of stone town. Very close to everything of interest and also a rather short walk to the ferry terminal. The staff was very friendly and we where allowed a late check-out. Very generous with towels around the pool.

South AfricaWhen you are making a booking for Tembo Hotel, make sure when you select rooms it's under "Tembo Hotel" and not Tembo Palace or their other locations. I had that issue where I was booking Tembo Hotel and they put me in another building, but I was firm and the rectified very and I loved my room - CHUNGWA.
1. The hotel is beautiful. 2. The staff is helpful and SUPER friendly. 3. The Hotel is perfectly located. 4. You feel safe in the hotel and around Stone Town

United States of AmericaThe ongoing renovation throughout the day was very annoying, even when you have lunch your food gets really dusty after constant drilling and banging the walls. Beach was full of beach boys and the airport taxi driver was keeping harassing us to take the tour from him for the reat of our stay.

ItalyReally central, few steps from the main square facing the ocean. It’s an old hotel with a lot of character and with its pros and cons. Pro: old colonial feel , two swimming pools that you need with the absolutely hot weather, big breakfast, very nice staff Cons: no lift, small room (at least mine)
