Breakfast could be a bit better, maybe a bit more diverse, but still wasn't bad for a budget option. Hostel is placed a bit close to Tenderloin so we stumbled upon some unpleasant neighbours, but only a few.

It was quite close to Moscone (10 or 15 min walk) and it was SUPER CLEAN. I did not expect that. Amazing. Aside from that it was quiet and comfy (great beds, pillows, proper duvet). I chose the private room and it was definitely enough for me and 2 friends if we were using it only for sleeping. For more time it might get a bit crowded, only a bed and two chairs to sit, also little storage space. another plus is close proximity to great diners (e.g. Pinecrest, Lori's)

Noise level can be high up at night when they are doing garbage or recycle pick up or loud music playing driving by. Eye plugs is must for light sleepers

Our room faced the main street so was pretty loud but not all the rooms do.

The location is great, 30-40 minute walk from pier 39 but lots of nice places closer too. It's close to a target, lots of buses and a metro station. The room itself had a little wardrobe and the private bathroom was small but clean. The kitchen was nice and big and clean and the free breakfast was simple but good.

The nights were really cold so I recommend to bring long sleeve pyjamas. They turned off the main electricity next to the sink every night until the morning so I couldn’t charge anything there but we had individual plugs connected to our bed. The lights were also not working during the night and morning so we had to use the bathroom without lights during the night and morning.

The location is great. The hostel is centrally located. There are a lot of homeless people downtown but I always felt safe because there was always staff at the reception and guests need their room card to get in so no strangers would have access to the hostel. It was never loud and we couldn’t hear steps or any noise from rooms around us.

the only thing I was disappointed with was the free breakfast which really was just bread, oats, bananas and hard boiled eggs which I'm not complaining about - i know it's a hostel and I should be happy I'm getting anything... it's just that I've stayed in other HI hostels and their free breakfast options were much more interesting so I'm just saying that it was a bit unsatisfying (still it does not take away from the place at all - just the one thought that came up)

It would have been nice to have a warmer bathroom. The elevator is slow and often takes a long time, so I always took the stairs, even though my room was on the 6th floor. No problem, increased my fitness.

Apparently I booked a single room but with no extra bathroom, only a sink. The room was small and felt depressing. I then had to pay an extra $140 to get a better room. A lot of money but it was worth spending. The other room was so much better and bigger. Top Floor with a view. The bathroom was bright yellow which created a bright atmosphere but the sash window could not be closed completely which made the bathroom quite fresh in January. Not ideal but okay. Overall a good stay. You can't beat this at that time in this location.

Nothing not to like.

It has the feeling of a turn-of-the-20th century hotel. And it might be a small thing to some, but being given actual sheets and a towel is an appreciated fact (considering many hostels in the world do not). 24-hr coffee as well as complementary breakfast adds to the value.

Bottom sheets. No Tea towels in kitchen

Fab location, 5min from Powell st Bart. You can easily avoid the Tenderloin area, but I had no problems. Hostel good, kitchen ok. The cleaners are awesome, keep the place scrupulously clean despite a tired look. Beds comfy, but bottom sheets a pain as too loose so don’t fit/stay tucked in. Breakfast good as included. Reception staff good, helpful and polite.

Our room was very cold. Big single pane windows that were very drafty. Had to get extra blankets and still felt cold.

The room was really cold, especially at night as the windows are not 100% airtight so there was a constant stream of cold air coming in at all times and the heater was too small for the room and did not work.

Fab location, 5 min from BART. Cleaners are superb, kitchen one of the cleanest I’ve been in, all staff friendly and helpful. Showers ok and hot. Beds comfy enough but bottom sheets are a pain as they don’t fit properly. Good breakfast. Kitchen equipment ok with enough cookers
