눉We booked a room at the Melville House but was called at the absolute last minute while on our way and told our room was being "upgraded" to the Admiral Farragut House because our original room did not have a bathroom in it. Really? Didn't say that in the description and if it did I wouldn't have booked it in the first place. Well, The "upgraded" room was horrible. Not sure what was worse. Beds were uncomfortable, water stains on the walls and ceilings, paper thin walls and doors, and a bathroom you had to practically step out of to towel yourself off. The room itself felt like a closet as well. They "skylight" had cardboard as some kind of makeshift shade to block out sunlight. It seems that most of the B&B's on Clarke Street are all owned by the same person who, honestly, does not appear to care about anything other than taking your money and sending you on your way. Spend your money on one of the Hotels and avoid these places if you can.

눇Loved the architecture of the buildings and neighborhood. Very quaint and historic. Loved that we could walk to so many places.

눉Do not book these Inns... Terrible!! This hotel is part of a group called Inns of Newport. We had booked it through booking.com. Seemed like a reasonable price for a busy St. Paddy's Day weekend. We spoke to the owner and he assured us we had a king size bed in a larger room. He then called us a day before the trip and said he moved us to an upgraded room (canopy King, jacuzzi tub...) in a different inn. We arrived and did not get an upgrade but what seemed like a downgrade. We were told it was going to cost us an additional $50 to get a king bed....(not even the jacuzzi room) We ended up at the Melville House with a very hard uncomfortable Queen bed and zero room to walk around. The bathroom was dollhouse like and a normal human could barely fit on the toilet or in the shower. The floors were dusty and under the bed were housing dust bunnies. Temperature of the room was not accessible to us and we were freezing! No phone. No hairdryer. No iron. No tv and wifi didn't work. We went back to the main house we checked in and the King room wasn't available anymore. At night the entire house can hear what everyone is doing... Awful nights sleep. No coffee/tea offered throughout the day. No pastries. Bed and Breakfast Inn- always means breakfast- we had no idea where this was being held the next morning... Walked over to the main house and after asking many questions we found out it was at a different house. We we then told by a guy we think may be the owner, that buying the room from a 3rd party makes you ineligible for breakfast... Although he didn't charge us the $10 he certainly embarrassed us by stating that loudly in the dining area. And the coffee was terrible.
