Historical hotel with friendly staff, good service, mediocre comfort.

Typical of American 3 star hotels -- a constant humming noise made sleep difficult, beds comfort was mediocre, fairly poor quality furnishings etc. in room. This is a 4 star hotel so one might expect better but I've learned that stars don't mean much in the US.

The lobby and public areas are good quality, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the sanitary features in the bathroom were decent quality, there are lots of historical pieces of artwork etc. Breakfast was very nice and in general the adjacent restaurant is great.

There were a lot of unhoused people in the near vicinity.

The hotel and rooms are spotless. They have a coffee and tea service downstairs which has cookies or scones. We used this as a base for the Newport Jazz festival so we did not do our usual exploration of the town and neighborhood.

I get up early and hoped to get breakfast as room service while I was working on preparing myself for the conference I was attending. The breakfast options looked delicious as it was advertised in the elevator and in the room. When I called to order I was informed breakfast was only served in the weekends. Disappointing. I asked the person who helped me check in to transfer the charges to my business card instead of my personal card. They did, but it didnt work, but only ended up charging both cards - which luckily I realized before leaving. In the end it was all charged to my personal card, which means extra hassle for me later.

Great room, extremely comfortable bed, and nice bath room. Ok coffee and light breakfast options in the lobby. Good staff that helped me correct the error regarding charges to my cards once I discovered it (Sofia was very helpful).
