A 2-star hotel in a 5-star location that you are paying for

It is most certainly not a 4-star hotel. 1.5-2 stars. The price is only for the location. The room is very small. There is no table/desk, so you eat at your nightstand or at the corner of the TV stand. If you need to work, you sit in the one chair with no table. No coffee machine, so no way to heat up water for drinking (although that's in the description of the room). My shower was leaking. The shower has hot water, but not the sink. So, if you have very sensitive teeth like mine and brushing with cold water causes serious pain... just be ready for the pain. The room is very dark because my room was facing into a "yard"-like situation created by the four sides of the hotel. I think it was facing North because I could see the upper floors of the opposite side get some sunlight during the day. There was a pipe or a vent outside, so I constantly had the humming noise, day and night. On the second day of my stay, there was water spraying out of the AC unit. I told reception who kindly sent a maintenance person. But the person first claimed that there was no water and showed me the dry floor under the AC. I showed him the water on the window and the top of the AC unit left by the little fountain earlier, at which point he consented to believe me, opened up the top, and told me that the whole thing needs to be changed... after I check out. And for now, he would put duct tape it. Didn't feel super safe, but I didn't turn on the unit after that, so it was okay. Would I stay there again? Yes, but only for location because I need to be able to safely walk back at 11p or later after an opera. Is it worth the money that it costs per night? No.

The location is absolutely perfect if you need to be in the center. I was there for the Metropolitan opera, so it was perfect. It's a 5-minute walk to Central Park and Columbus circle. There are plenty of restaurants, although not many grocery stores if you prefer that option. You pay for the location, nothing else. the people at the reception were pleasant. The room was very clean, including the bathroom.

Location, location, location! The best location ever. Friendly and helpful staff Good soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion

The room is TINY, as are the beds. We were all very much on top of each other and wrestling for space. We were sidestepping around the room once we and our luggage were in. The hotel is very expensive for what you actually get.

Location is great and staff are super friendly and accommodating. The shower is wonderful.

Water in the shower took ages to turn hot. We were on the first floor and windows were covered because the view was on to the outside AC units. The was accousting coming and green noise in the room but it wasn't the AC as the latter wasn't working.

Located right next to the central park and a metro station. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. I'm not sure about New York prices in general but I guess it was good value for money.

My room was very run down. The paint was chipping and the side tables had scratches all over. Plus one of the picture frames was on the ground. Just round expect a higher level for the amount i paid for the room.

The facility needs to be freshened up and updated to live up to it's pricing. Bathrooms are tiny. Valet parking is overpriced.

The Empire is always about location and staff for me. From the bellman to housekeeping, every staff member has been top notch. Being directly opposite to Lincoln Center is perfect for us The beds are very comfortable.

Though the location of the hotel was fabulous the view from my room was not good and I wasn't able to appreciate the location from the room. There were some spots that had been neglected by the cleaning staff. Specifically behind the bathroom door. To be fair the staff probably doesn't clean with the door closed because the bathroom is tiny. But these spots were quite obvious when you're in the bathroom with the door closed.

The location was my reason for choosing The Empire and I was pleased by how close it is to Lincoln Center and Central Park. It feels cozy and elegant with a bit of an 80's vibe. Not generic like many hotels.
