Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaCarmichael House is a grand old property, full of character. Yves and Valerie were great hosts and looked after us so well. We stayed in the family room which was ideal for the 5 of us. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, and the rooms and bathrooms had everything we needed. The breakfasts were delicious and off street parking was a real bonus. Hope to return again soon!

GermanyDear Valerie, dear Yves thank you so much for everything. We really enjoyed the time at your lovely Hotel, to be honest it felt like home. The interieur is super cute but also timeless. Everything we needed with our 1,5 y toddler was in our loft. If anything was needed additionally you were helped out at the reception. You could choose to eat your breakfast in the wintergarden, on the balcony or in the garden. While your ordered breakfast is being prepared in the back, you can enjoy croissants with homemade jam. The pool was neat and there were always towels at the sunbeds. Our room was cleaned everyday and also vaccumed. We had a rental car so we could drive everywhere by ourselves. Last but not least sightseeing and interesting spots were 15-20 min by car. We would always recommend this lovely oasis. If we ever come back to Capetown one day we will stay here again. All the best for your whole family.

The room, the pool and the garden are immaculately kept and offer a relaxing retreat for moments and days you want to take it easy. Breakfast was also wonderful, and staff are extremely friendly and competent. Not forgetting the beds, which are delightfully comfortable!

United StatesI liked the location, being equidistant from sites we wanted to visit and in a semi-residential area. However, the B&B is near Cape Town University creating a rather transient atmosphere.
Breakfast was excellent. It was served outside because the weather was so nice. We would also have a lunch or light dinner at this location. The room was of good size and all accoutrements functioned well, although the bathroom sink didn't drain properly until we pointed it out. Communication with the owners was excellent; they provided good advice. Uber transportation was close at hand and economical.

RussiaIt is everything you want a boutique hotel to be: cosy, stylish, intimate, delicious. The facilities are great but like everywhere else in the world people make the experience truly unique. Yves and Valerie are incredible, excellent, truly outstanding hosts. They made us very welcome, helped with every issue we had and we happened to have a few during our stay with them. With their knowledge of the area they give great guidance on where to go and what to do But most importantly they truly care about their guests and they really go out of their way to be accommodating. When we come back to Cape Town we know there is no need to look any further, we will be back to Carmichael house.

RussiaA review becomes more trustworthy when there is at least a little point for improvement :) We thought that adding some fruits for breakfast will make it as perfect as the quality of bed and beauty of the room and house!
Carmichael is a very stylish hotel with a very warm atmosphere. We loved everything about this place! Location, the elegant house, nice garden, large and beautifully decorated room, large bathroom with all the amenities one needs, perfect cleanliness. Bed was very comfortable and linen of the highest quality. Bathrobes were so soft! :) Breakfast was very fresh and tasty too. Yves and Valerie, and all staff members, were very friendly and caring, and always ready to help. We travel a lot, and by no doubt Carmichael is one of the best boutique hotels we ever stayed at. We do not hesitate to recommend this place to the most demanding travelers. And we will definitely come back!
