Bathroom was huge but not clean enough for a property of this level. The drain in the shower does not drain and you stand in old water the whole time you shower. It took hours before the water drained. I did mention this on checkout so I trust this has been attended to.

The coffee machine did not work and there should be a guide to TV instructions , maybe if I was them provide Netflix. Being rated a five star location, in the evening when we wanted a drink, but we could not find anybody.

We loved our room. We liked the surroundings ,one could go for walks but need to want to explore. We love to walk. The staff was very friendly, it was quiet and very relaxing.

We were slightly disappointed that the hotel’s restaurant is currently closed. A minor point regarding the room: the ceiling light appeared to have a malfunction where one bulb could not be turned off and another flickered all night long.

Beautiful historic buildings in spectacular surroundings, just a short hop from the picturesque village of Swellendam. Superbly appointed and comfortable rooms and delicious breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful yoga session. We especially liked the fact that a staff member cleaned our car pre-departure without being asked!

The room is spacious, well lit, with all the facilities you need. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom big, and well layed out. The breakfast was first class. We also spent time next to the pool - very enjoyable.

The decor was a little strange and we were expecting more on-site spa facilities, a restaurant and an area to enjoy pre and after dinner drinks (as per the website). It was lovely but not sure I would refer to it as a "luxury hotel and spa"!

The pool was really nice, as was the breakfast. The groundsman and Linda were absolutely lovely and so helpful and happy.

Our final night of our holiday in South Africa so we decided to splash out and spend a little more by booking De Kloof. We did not regret it. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly lady who said we could select from two different rooms that were available. Both were absolutely beautful, very spacious with high quality furnishings. We selected "Merlot". The room was fantastic. Huge bathroom, lovely balcony overlooking the garden and extremely comfortable. After a lot of time in the car we had a lovely afternoon relaxing in the sun by the pool where there was a drinks service by ringing a bell. The location was a little way off the main street but walkable to the restaurants. Breakfast in the morning was a little slow but perfectly acceptable.

The facility had no back up electricity. For a small Bouquet Hotel, I would have liked under cover parking.

The room was nice big with a comfortable bed. I liked the fact that the bed was long enough to accommodate my length of 1.90 meters. The bathroom was had all the amenities that I expect and it a shower and a bath.

Disappointing to find restaurant was not serving evening meals but every effort made to book meal at local eatery for us which was much appreciated. Offered travel arrangements also but had our own transport.

There was nothing we didn’t like about this place.

De kloof was a lovely character building, with lovely staff the Gardner even cleaned our car. We only had one night but thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the breakfast was lovely in the main building, you had to go out for dinner as they didn’t do evening meal. For the price we payed it was a very nice place to stay.

The room needed a little attention for example the bathroom blinds didn’t work and the safe was small and difficult to operate. The bed linen was quite discoloured, maybe due to the property not being on mains drainage? Generally a little ‘tired’.

Lovely breakfast served on the terrace by a very friendly lady. Beautiful surroundings around the old, historic building. Swimming pool with mountain views Five minutes walk main road, (quite steep on return). A further 10 max to a choice of 3/4 restaurants. Huge room and bathroom.
