To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

South AfricaSince we were traveling with a toddler, the stairs were a constant worry for us. They were very steep and need some refurbishment to make them more even and safe, especially for wet weather. The room had beautiful african artifacts on the wall. Our toddler was a mission to want to continuously remove and play with them which was a headache because I didn't get a moment of relaxation in. The room didn't provide privacy for the bathroom which was very awkward for my husband. The pillows need replacing as they are caked in dirt. It didn't feel like a guesthouse, which is what one would like to feel when one books a place to stay. We also had to pay a key deposit of R500. This is a total new for me because that should be included in the price one pays for the room... It has been refunded, but when you are confronted with a payment of R500 for a key after traveling all day. Then having to sign a huge page of rules... WT F?! Since when are paying guests forced to sign an entire list of rules? I don't mind signing something small to say if something breaks its my responsibility to pay for it, but a page.... Its a bit of a put off for the establishment that has been advertised on the app. The fact that the booking is also fully nonrefundable is a big problem when plans change and you need to get home asap. We stayed one out of four nights. They got 3 nights bonus from us.... I am sure if tables were turned, the owners also wouldn't be too happy customers.
The building itself was beautiful and authentic. It is situated right next to a beautiful forest with hiking trails nearby. They helped find my phone when I realized I had lost it in our rush to get home.

South AfricaThere were no sharp knives example steak knives. No basic cooking utensils example egg lifter. Wifi was only detected by TV. TV had to stand on kitchen table thus no comfort there. Could not leave my pet alone to go to town. Was told it is not allowed.
It's peaceful and quiet. We'll located. Was left undisturbed. Definitely a contractors accommodation. Just enough there for you not to complain. Ideal for short term stay and you4 are willing to ruff it up a bit.

South AfricaOutdated, need fixing & paint. I complained about blocked shower & toilet running constantlly. 2 plate stove was faulty & had to complain and they did come and assist. Ran out of toilet paper, only got 1 and a half roll for 6 days had to go ask for another roll. Light switches only at door. Curtains need washing.

Got told on arrival that the bathrooms were outside….and if we wanted to upgrade to have a bathroom inside it would cost R200 more. Pillows were disgustingly dirty, flat or lumpy-take your pick. The towel rail was totally broken. Advertised with mountain view but definitely no view.

South AfricaUnhygienic dirty blankets, stinking floor rug, shower door falling, no proper parking, dirty swimming pool, distrust of guests by the management for taking ID copies of the guest, lack of communication in terms of deposit on arrival and delay in refund, bed and bedding in poor conditions, plates with cracks. The reception area is poorly arranged.... the list is endless. The place is very unhygienic, pathetic and doesn't deserve to receive guests.

South AfricaSharing a bathroom and shower with another couple. Being told that I am "lucky" to get a room as they do not reserve rooms for those who did not pay upfront.
When I get there, I was told that since I didn't pay upfront they did not reserve any room for us. Initially, they sounded like they didn't know who we are despite the fact that we booked and had called them earlier. They gave us a room with no bathroom or shower, we had to share an outside toilet with another couple and use their shower in the morning. The whole experience was highly unpleasant.
