Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The hosts Daniel and Sonja were so nice and organized a table for Dinner at a wonderful restaurant. The rooms have colonial charme and the breakfast was amazing. If we come to Oudtshoorn again we definitely know where to stay.

Sometimes you just need a bed to sleep before continuing with your travels. And then you get this which is an experience you will not easily forget. Sonja and Daniel are the perfect hosts. The house has so much history and meticulously kept. The breakfast to die for. South African Karoo experience with a Belguim touch.

Daniël and Olga greeted us heartily as a warm welcome to Oakdene Guest House. They introduced the facilities and also the possibilities of Oudtshoorn and surroundings. We loved the old fashioned rooms with all the necessities a modern traveller needs. The bathroom was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. The extra lights for load shedding were explained. We really enjoyed Oakdene Guest House as a quiet place to stay in the middle of Oudthoorn. On walking distance to the restaurants and shops. On Daniël's advice we've visited Buffels Drift on our second night; a real treasure. We certainly have to come back to enjoy more of Oudtshoorn and the Karoo.

A beautifully furnished property, lovely large room. The hosts were brilliant, and really welcoming. Breakfast was fantastic! The homemade bread and jam was devine. Would recommend staying here for sure.

Having to leave! I already want to go back.
The location, in what felt like a very safe area in the town. with many restaurants all within walking distance and secure parking and a lovely rustic garden with a pool. The hosts just made it even more special. Sonja with her cool trousers & fabulous breakfasts (but Daniel helped too!) Daniel “the guide” helping not just us, but all guests to make the very most from Oudtshoorn area based on each group’s needs. We would’ve missed so much without his enthusiasm & guidance. Thank you

Lovely hosts! The garden is an oasis in the semi arid climate of Oudtshoorn. Breakfast was delicious, homemade bread and jams served on the covered terrace. We enjoyed exchanging with the hosts in order to learn more about what it is that makes South Africa such an extraordinary place. Thanks again for your hospitality!

Thank you Daniel and Sonja - You are great hosts. The house is beautiful inside with all the Oregan Pine floors. Breakfast was excellent, especially the homemade bread. Thank you for arranging the dinner reservation @ Buffelsdrift. Perfect setting for dinner.

The house and furniture were lovely. The garden and pool area were great for a hot day. The breakfast was excellent and the cakes made by Sonje were an added bonus. Daniel gave some great suggestions on where to eat and visit which greatly enhanced our stay. Excellent guest house which we were sad to leave.

Slightly low pressure in the shower but honestly that was nothing really.
Beautiful old house, large bedroom, comfy bed and great hosts. So nice to have a guest fridge and the pool was a bonus. Sonia is the best at ironing. I could never hope to be as good! Breakfast was fab, home baked bread and apple cakes as well as jams. Plus very good coffee.

All was really lovely.
Excellent brief to our room, area & help with advice on what to see & where to eat with bookings made for dinner on our behalf. All good recommendations. Our hosts Daniel & Sonja exceeded our expectations as hosts as were so willing to enhance our holiday. We learned so much from them about the area. The breakfast & home made cooking of breads & jams, brownies etc were very much appreciated & all were really delicious. We appreciated the extra time that this takes rather than just buying. Having stayed in SA in guest houses over a period of 30 years , this one really stands out through its great location & superb hospitality. We left there after only 2nts but felt like friends with the hosts. We would definitely recommend & return!

Wonderful stay with welcoming owners and lovely house from 1853. Clean spacious rooms. Great breakfast with homemade bread. Walking distance to restaurants. Nice pool for those hot days.
