눉 We would not have had a bad word to say about Shindzela but unfortunately on our last drive we did not have Wiian. A few other guests who were not on Wiian's drive but did his AM walk, commented on the difference in attitude and approach of Wiian vs their guide. We were shocked at the dramatic change of approach. We burned around the park at ridiculously fast speed (which was uncomfortable and disruptive), we not told anything informative, the guide was very standoffish, arrogant and didn't encourage interaction or questions (all he seemed to care about was finding a lion - he didn't seem to stop for anything), he actually antagonised an elephant by shining a torch in its eyes and charged it with the truck?! If we had him for longer than 1 drive I would have made a formal complaint. I can understand why others would have viewed Shindzela with disappointment. It was a real shock and highlighted the importance of a good guide. For this reason I am giving them a 4/5 and hope that they find more consistent quality in their guides
눇We spent 4 nights/3 full days at Shindzela and loved bit except the drive. In 2000 I went to Ngorongoro and Serengeti and was very disappointed about my mass tourism safari experience - in fact I loathed it. So I was very sceptical about Shindzela but surprisingly it was the complete opposite - intimate and informative. -It had just the perfect level of comfort without being bling or cheap. -It was the ideal size so you got to know all of the guests. Also the clientele seemed to be very real adventurous people - we had lots of laughs -The food was too plentiful but healthy and delicious. The cook was a real character -Every afternoon a herd of about 20 elephants came extremely close to drink from a pond about 100 metres away. At camp we also saw buffaloes and a Shindzela (honey badger). Also the elephants kept us up on the first night and actually cheekily kicked up the water pipes -The tents were raised and sturdy with good little touches like hot water bottles and nice toiletries - very comfy beds -I had chosen Shindzela for the walking tours as the idea of just being in a safari truck for 3 days was not ideal. Walks with Wiian were super informative - very different from game drives - more intimate with the environment and very interesting - like muck diving -We were blessed to have Wiian for all walks and drives except the last. We can't praise Wiian enough. Although only 25yrs old he is bush wise and mature beyond his years. His passion, knowledge, professionalism and friendliness was exceptional. He was constantly sharing his incredible knowledge with us - it was 3 days of constant learning and total fascination. He can make learning about termites and rhino dung interesting!
