Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyThe only downside was that there was a problem with ants in the kitchenette (there was no open food around).
We had the room with a "city view" for 7 nights. This had a small French balcony with room for two chairs. From here you had a view of the Cape Town skyline and Table Mountain (although the view was half obscured by the neighboring house). However, you could see Table Mountain perfectly and in all its glory from the entrance. Otherwise, the room was very well equipped. It had a comfortable bed, a sofa, a wardrobe, a table with two chairs and a kitchenette with a fridge, hob, kettle and Nespresso machine. There were also capsules for the Nespresso machine, milk, coffee powder, washing-up liquid and tea towels. Crockery and cutlery as well as pots and pans were also provided. Although we never cooked ourselves, we sometimes ordered food via Uber Eats, so the small kitchenette with table and chairs was very practical for us. The bathroom was also very well equipped with a shower and bath and everything worked. There were also plenty of sockets in the room, even with adapters. We were also lucky enough to get a parking space in the double garage so that we could park our rental car safely. The hotel has a pool with loungers and a beautiful view of the Cape Town skyline. The pool is theoretically open all night, but is not illuminated. The hotel is located right next to the Bo Kaap district and the streets here are sometimes very steep. Apart from that, we walked around the neighborhood during the day and didn't really feel uncomfortable. As you're not supposed to walk around the streets at night in South Africa anyway, we didn't do this either. But you can also quickly walk to Longstreet and explore the City Center of Cape Town. We really liked the hotel and felt very comfortable and safe here.

United KingdomThere is a steep hill but we didn’t mind it! Ubers are cheap and reliable if you don’t fancy walking
Excellent location for exploring the City and fabulous pool and views.

United States of AmericaThe hillside provided great views from the balcony (big balcony) - but also a fair hike.
I would always ask for a balcony room. The location was on a hill side - pretty steep - but good with Ubers available. This property is in the Bo Koop area - colorful houses.

United States of AmericaNeeded a key to exit the property. Maybe there was a switch override, but we didn't find one.
The apartment space is tiny, but sufficient for 2 people. We appreciated having a little balcony, and enjoyed star-gazing at the Southern Cross constellation. Fixtures worked well. Owner left some Nespresso pods for us, which were handy for our early morning departures! Neighborhood feels safe during the day. We didn't walk around at night. Loved the Besmiellah Restaurant at the bottom of the hill and all of the colorful homes in the neighborhood.

United KingdomUpperbloem Guesthouse is located near the top of a very steep, cobbled hill , which (for most tourists) means it is only accessible by car. That does however mean you get fantastic views of Cape Town once you get there. However, I definitely recommend you book a room with a sea view as the view in city view rooms is somewhat blocked by the neighbouring house. Our room was compact but well equipped and was a good base for exploring the city, Waterfront, Table Mountain and Sea Point. The owners were very helpful in allowing us to park our car and store our bicycles in the garage (we were in Cape Town for the cycle tour). We didn't have time to make use of the swimming pool but it looked like a tranquil oasis and the perfect place to cool down on a hot day.

South AfricaThe complete absence of an iron and ironing board, either in the room or at the guest house. Not suitable for business travellers.
The location is unique right at the top and d the historic and authentic Bo-Kaap quarter, with flawless views over the city and bay. It was extra special being able to appreciate the local community during the end of Ramadan.

United KingdomLiked everything! There are steps to get into & out of the flat that might be a problem for some. And we were advised by local friends not to walk about this area at night. But the secure parking meant we didn't need to. We felt safe in the apartment and on the street where it is, with friendly neighbours.
Really beautiful, quiet and spacious apartment with very comfy bed, high quality linen and the most gorgeous views over the city - so lovely we woke to watch the sunrise every morning. Very well appointed flat with everything you need to cook simple meals - but it's also within really easy (daytime) walking distance of Company Gardens & the museums & restaurants etc there. The bathroom was also very spacious with good quality fittings - separate shower and bath. Would definitely come back here, suitable also for a longer stay - highly recommended. Katrin was always available by WhatsApp and Udo (on site) also. Miss it already!
