Built as a private house in 1914, the hotel has hosted King George V and other members of the royal family. Many of the rooms and public areas retain elements of Edwardian luxury, including high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Loved the building and the grounds

Just 3 minutes’ walk from Barrow town centre, the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel offers free Wi-Fi, free parking and a traditional on-site restaurant and bar.

We have now upgraded our breakfast offer, with a new menu and service times extended to 10.30am every day.

Our room was absolutely lovely, spacious, very comfy beds and a fantastic on-suite bathroom with a lovely big shower 🚿and tea and coffee making facilities and a smart tv with all the streaming services , just sign in to your own account to watch netflix or what ever but dont forget to sign out before you leave . The hotel had its own lift which was just as well cause we were on the top floor and I'm not as fit as I used to be so appreciated the lift . The hotel has a lovely bar and restaurant and the food was lovely . You can get food cheaper down the road in a weatherspoons but it's not as classy or as good in my opinion and me myself don't mind paying a little extra for quality .

The hotel is beautiful . The reception staff were really helpful but one stood out and that was David on reception, whilst checking in there was a very loud conversation with another guest and his bar bill, David was very apologetic and was embarrassed that we had a rowdy check in , however due to our original room being on the smaller side then expected , David upgraded us to the craven suite which was absolutely stunning. lovely choices for breakfast.

We went for our wedding anniversary and were upgraded to a large room with a pleasant view. Breakfast, as always was excellent (included in the price - a real bonus these days!) Plenty of parking available on site and within 5 minutes drive of the town centre and 10 minutes to beautiful beaches i.e. Walney Island and Roan Head Beach.

The staff was friendly, the room was lovely and I loved the furniture. The bottle of wine and box of chocolates for our wedding anniversary was a nice surprise too. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so was nice and quiet and all you could see was green. Would definitly stay again.

We got upgraded to the what we called bridal suite! Due to a mix up with our room. Absolutely gorgeous room! Don't think I'd want to stay in any other room now. Lovely and clean as always.
