This was a fantastic, traditional ryokan experience. The building and rooms were beautiful. Robes were provided and we enjoyed the large family area in our room for relaxing with our whole family. The public bath was amazing & though we were hesitant to use it bc of our Western culture of privacy, I am so glad we didn’t miss the opportunity. The staff were welcoming and serving. It was humbling to be in such a beautiful, careful environment

Situated 43 km from Shuzen-ji Temple, Kaiseki Ryokan Ashikari offers accommodation in Yugawara with access to a hot spring bath. The 3-star ryokan has garden views and is 23 km from Hakone-Yumoto Station. The ryokan features rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi.

We are a couple from Australia and stayed at Ashikari for two nights. The rooms were immaculate, comfortable and spacious. The outdoor onsen tub is amazing and the view over the mountains makes it unforgettable. The public onsen was also beautiful. The food is an experience in itself - exceptional with creative courses - even for a very big appetite such as myself. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, even as we only speak English - especially the manager who went above and beyond for us. It is easily accessible from Yugawara station (we let them know our train arrival time and they came and picked us up) and close to Tokyo, as we were travelling through from Osaka. The town itself is pleasant enough but quiet - you don't really need to leave Ashikari in my opinion. It was a great contrast to the business of the major cities. Overall staying at a ryokan is a unique cultural experience. Ashikari delivered that with luxury in abundance. It was one of the highlights of our trip. I would recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity.

Very warm family that hosted us. It was our first experience at an onsen ryokan and we enjoyed both meals and onsen dips. The staff were very welcoming. They offered to pick us up from the nearest station (Yugawara Station). Don’t forget to purchase the mandarin oranges from the uncle near the ryokan! Really fresh and sweet. This place also seemed to be popular with locals, we were lucky enough to have the entire onsen to ourselves that night!
