Important Port of Saintly Significance
The Apulian capital Bari has been known for its port since Roman times. Nowadays there are 2 harbours: cruise ships and ferries to Greece and Croatia depart from the new port, while the old port shelters fishing vessels.
Between them is a seafront road bordering the real attraction – the old town. Narrow, cobbled streets lead under arches to hidden piazzas with pavement cafes. Many are on adjoining Piazza Mercantile and Piazza del Ferrarese, where the old Roman road is exposed.
The imposing 12th-century Norman-Swabian Castle guards the west of the historic centre, and the simple Cathedral of San Sabino is from the same period. Equally understated is the Basilica of St Nicholas, housing relics of the saint. Pope John Paul II once prayed there, which may have given rise to Bari Airport’s name: Karol Wojtyła Airport.
Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the meeting point of the old town and the Murat district, built under orders of Napoleon’s brother-in-law. Facing each other across this street are the colourful façades of the municipal office and Piccinni Theatre, though most prestigious is the Petruzzelli Theatre opera house.
Booking.com’s Bari accommodation includes luxury hotels by the Fiera del Levante, cheap city centre apartments, and B&Bs near the train station. For families, the slides and swimming pools of Bari Acquapark make a great day out.

Amb tant poc temps ens em tingut que buscar la vida. El hotel Victoria que hem trobat de casualitat a les afores de la ciutat, s’han portat molt be, despres de 2 hores d’estar rondant per tot Bari. Tot estava ple. El mateix hotel ens ha dit que era mentida. Segur que les ha vengut mes cares al primer que ha passat. I tot que el varem avisar que arribaríem entre 5 i 6 de la tarde.

Apartament confortable i molt ampli tan habitació com l'office. Encara que no hi ha personal presencial per fer el checking, varem estar molt ben atesos "on line" per Sr. Pier. En tot moment va estar en contacte amb nosaltres, resolent els dubtes. Ens va aconsellar un bon restaurant ( La Tana del Polpo) a on varem sopar cuina local molt bona. Per despiste nostre no varem trobar uns dolços típics i frescos del dia que formaben part de l'esmorzar.
