Boasting many national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.
Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.
If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.
DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guest house booked through Booking.com.
The more we learned about the Washington DC transportation...
The more we learned about the Washington DC transportation system the better we liked it. at the moment, seniors are riding free on the bus system. That was a huge plus. The regular buses connect to areas where circulator buses travel. The circulator buses make loops around some of the more important and often visited sites. We enjoyed talking with people on the street and found that they were very helpful with finding the right bus and sharing routes that would get us to where we wanted to go. Brace yourself for high prices. it seemed that every meal whether in a restaurant or in a cafeteria cost at least $25 per person, and often more, even a simple meal.

Architecture is wonderful and free tours of many of the museums helps defray the cost of parking and Uber costs although Uber transportation was punctual and convenient. Be prepared for lengthy walks throughout the city and on site of attractions. Difficult to visit grocery markets as there seem to be few and parking is difficult to find if you drive your own vehicle. Most restaurant meals are expensive, but quality was good.

Amazing place to visit.
Amazing place to visit. Medium affordable food with more free things to do than anywhere I've ever been. Make sure to sign up early for Aerospace and African American museums. They are free, but you get an allotted time and pass and they where sold out days before I arrived. I went during spring break. Tons of beautiful architecture, not just the monuments. Plan to walk miles, though there are plenty of Uber options for when you're tired. Elephant and Castle was a surprising affordable option to eat with great food options and a nice bar while still being family friendly.

first time in DC and won't be the last - I loved this place!
first time in DC and won't be the last - I loved this place! The sights and history are a must for any visitor to the USA. Not only are most of the attractions free but the staff in these free facilities are also brilliant - I would like to single out the staff in the Capital Building across from the supreme court for their enthusiasm, courtesy and efficiency - they are a model of exceeding visitor expectations and they are a credit to the people who hired them! They are amazing ambassadors for their city. I might stay in Georgetown the next time I go to DC - great vibe and worthy of the hype.
I absolutely loved our stay in Hotel Washington! Room was comfortable, initially was a bit disappointed since we got a room with no view BUT in the end it was ok because it was a quiet area, we were undisturbed and we got the best night's sleep on all the days we were staying here. The staff were welcoming especially Ermelita and Mary from the FD. The location is wonderful - very close to the White House, lots of restaurants in the general area, Museums are a few mins walk. Felt very safe in the neighborhood and the hotel.
The guest services desk were very pleasant and helpful. Special shout out to Johnny who assisted with any requires regarding the room.
The Lyle DC will be the place I decide to stay at whenever I'm in Washington DC.
Rooms were clean and great, location was very good with lots of restaurants within walking distance. Also within walking distance of the White House and National Mall. The bar is well stocked and has a great vibe. The hotel restaurant has a lovely brunch menu too
Will definitely be coming back!
The Grand Hyatt is in an excellent location. Close to the metro, which is on the silver line straight to Dulles airport. It is also walking distance to the main museums, galleries and attractions of Washington. Room size was very generous compared to other hotels. Bed very comfortable. The staff were very good. I particularly liked that there was no additional 'holding deposit' charged to our credit card. It was good value, considering hotels in Washington are quite expensive.
2 large adjoining rooms 2 bathrooms Old hotel but very comfortable in fantastic location. This is an old dusty hotel but plenty of clean towels. clean beds, Shampoo soap etc. Fantastic location so cheap to stay. We spend most of our time out of the hotel so suited us just find. Enjoyed Washington.
Harry bar reminds me of diners of the 1980 good for quick drink and burger. Staff very helpful at Harrys bar.
Location was great; near metro. Near downtown. I liked the staff; very friendly. I liked the lobby music--funky. I liked the decor--warm and unique--not at all like a hotel. I liked the rooms. First time I have played a record in 30 years. I liked the breakfast restaurant and the restaurant. I liked the price. Amazing value for all I have described.
Convenient location. This location is just 5 min away from Subway green line and There is a bus 70 right in front of the door that will drive you to down town. You can tour washington DC without a car.
It is spacious than a regular hotel room.
Nice smart TV.
Reasonable price.
The landlord is nice and responds our questions quickly.
The service and accommodations were great. All the staff offered a awesome service, very kindly and professional. The room was spacious and comfortable. Hotel location is perfect. Near Dupont Circle subway and bus stations, restaurants, grocery store and a CVS. Hotel Madera will be my first option for future visits to DC.
The lobby was very beautiful and spacious. We did have a couple drinks and they were also great. It was easy to check in and they even directed us to a parking garage because the hotel's garage was full and it was cheaper. The room was quite large and quiet.
This is a self-service check in hotel, so use a code to enter. No thrills, not reception at hotel, but easy to do and very efficient. Appartement was well organized and with small kitchen and spacious. Great value for money, in the centre of Washington DC,
The location was conveniently located near Union Station and other major destinations. The hotel was spectacularly clean, had great amenities, and a wonderful lounge for hot cocoa. I also loved the cozy room and the Dubliner Restaurant.
Location was ideal. There's lots of places to eat nearby. Several coffee bars within 5 min walk. Hilton hotel is right across the street which is great if you have a conference to attend.
Top floor was the best.
The hotel was historic in a great location. It was different than a chain such as the Marriott. The restaurant had an amazing wait staff. We appreciated the head waiter's attention to our time in Washington, DC.
Fantastic location in the heart of Washington DC. A beautiful hotel with an exceptional quality of finish. The property exceeded our expectations and a night cap at the bar was a great way to finish our day.
