The Kings Arms and Royal Hotel, Godalming, Surrey, hotel in Godalming

The Kings Arms and Royal Hotel, was originally built in the 17th-century. It offers 21 boutique-style rooms, a bar and a restaurant serving traditional English food.

Having been told this hotel was a real dump a few years ago, I was totally amazed at how gorgeous the whole place is! Everything about it is splendid. The rooms are really well equipped with things you expect and a few more besides. The decor is top class, a real feeling of luxury. In fact the whole hotel is like staying in a stately manor! And being right on the High Street the location is fantastic

Godalming is an attractive small town on the edge of the Surrey Hills. We’re regular visitors, our daughter and family live there. The area around the high street has some good shops, nice restaurants, pubs and it seems like there’s a new coffee shop opening each week.

An interesting little town that has retained much of its character despite morphing into another notch in the London commuter belt. The centre has some good independent shops. The park has a poignant memorial to the radio operator on the Titanic. The meadows next to the Wey navigation offer pleasant walks. The woods at Winkworth arboretum are spectacular all year round. Road and rail links to London and the south coast are very good.

I know NOTHING about Godalming - apart from the fact that it has a branch of Waitrose and that booking.com has decided that we stayed there - we were actually on the outskirts of a village called Compton, nearest main town Guildford.

We travelled to spend time with relatives in Godalming. Should you wish to travel to London Central, it can be easily done from Godalming or Farncombe rail stations +/- 40 mins. A visit to Guildford for extended shopping can be achieved easily by car or public transport.

The King’s Arms was fine for an overnight stay.

The King’s Arms was fine for an overnight stay. The hotel is located on the high street and whilst the hotel has parking spaces at the back of the building, they are limited. Our room was small but had been recently refurbished, as was the bathroom, to a high standard. Nice finishing touches in the room for guests staying longer; books, playing cards and a wooden noughts and crosses board as well as tv and well stocked tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was delicious served by friendly staff. The only negative point was the room was very hot but thankfully we were able to open the window. We would consider staying again for an overnight stay.

Comfortable apartment in a good location in the centre of Godalming main street. It was well furnished, comfortable bed and clean. Also very quiet which was nice given its location. There were reverse air con units in each room so nice and warm. Wi-fi was good. Kitchen was clean and had everything included although we didn't actually use it apart from making tea. The price was competitive for the time of year and if that was the case in the future we would stay again.

Great location and suited our stay in town for a family wedding perfectly. The staff was very, very friendly and went above and beyond on several occasions to ensure we had what we needed, even going so far as to setting out breakfast very early on our check out day because they knew we had to be off ahead of the normal breakfast time. The restaurant and pub areas are beautiful and served as a great socializing area for our family and friends between wedding events.

The Withies Inn is the quintessential English countryside inn and pub experience. The pub is warm and inviting with delicious food and drink, fireside seating, local flavor and an authentic pub ambience. The rooms are beautifully appointed with lush bedding and towels. The proprietor, Hugh, and his team are friendly and professional. I highly recommend The Withies Inn for your next visit to Surrey.

Withies far exceeded our expectations. The rooms are nicely updated and comfortable while the restaurant and bar remain authentic and historic. Hugh and his team could not have been more welcoming. Breakfast was one of the best we had in England. We would definitely stay again.
