The town of Sorrento has gorgeous Renaissance and Baroque architecture, and a big variety of restaurants, shops and cafés. Nice place but very expensive to dine out. Trains to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Vesuvius are great. Very east, fairly frequent, reasonably priced. Bus to Amalfi from the bus station, also very reasonably priced . Absolutely amazing trip! Boat trip to Capri was very dear and not really worth it.

There were many places to visit while staying in Sorrento - Capri, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Amalfi, Positano. There are many buses, trains and ferries to travel on. There are a variety of bars, restaurants and gelato shops to enjoy as well as a variety of shops. I felt like I was in the mountains of Umbria, but was able to walk a few minutes to the beach and to the center of town. The owners are the nicest people you could meet. They are really welcoming and made my feel at home from the moment I arrived. They also pay attention to the small details of their property. I would highly recommend chalet Lidia to anyone that wants the Italian home experience while visiting Italy.

Rooms have an AC and a safe-box. There is neither an iron nor an iron board in the room but you can get them on request. The breakfast is quite regular for the south of Italy, I guess: nothing special, but everything is fresh and delicious. As the hotel located a bit far from the city central part, it's very convenient for the guests to use the shuttle service provided.
