We booked the hotel for the whirlpool and sauna. Note that this is however a common strategy for hotels to bolster their image as luxury establishments by including amenities like gyms, whirlpools, and swimming pools. However, relying solely on these facilities to justify premium pricing overlooks the importance of consistently maintaining and improving other aspects of the guest experience. While fixed room features may provide a sense of permanence, neglecting the finer details can ultimately detract from the overall quality of the stay.

It was an old castle of the 15th century, and they had kept as much as possible of the old wall. The location was dead-center (100m from the cathedral), many shops, cafes bars, restaurants, etc., but you did not have any noise of the bars. Safe (there was always someone at the reception; some other 5-stars in Utrecht don't. The rooms had the goose-theme, different levels, different colors. Very thoughtful: personalized welcome card

A vibrant yet chilled out place to visit.
A vibrant yet chilled out place to visit. Loved all the cafe and bars and small streets where you can meander and wander in and out of lovely shops. Some of our party went to the top of the bell tower, quite hard going but amazing views. We also visited the Roman ruins under the tower, very interesting and good fun. Also spent a leisurely hour and a half on a a canal river trip, highly recommended! Went to several restaurants, great, reasonably priced food and far too much good wine and beer. Would visit again in a heartbeat!

Really lovely place, have been here several times and love it more each visit. There's lots to see and places to eat and watch the world go by. As it has a University there are lots of students around which adds to its vibrancy. It's a strange mix of busy and quiet in parallel. Watch out for the bikes as you're in the Netherlands, this took a little getting used to but it does mean there are not so many cars which is lovely. Absolutely recommend a visit!

I am in love with this city.
I am in love with this city. Utrecht is a reduced and improved Amsterdam. A very romantic and charming city with canals, parks, narrow streets, neat houses and various entertainments. It reminds me of a model of a puppet city. Everything is clean and tidy, people are smiling, calm and friendly. It's not a small town, but the central part can be explored on foot and the more remote parts by bike or car. There are plenty of places to picnic and walk around and it's only 30 minutes from the bustel of Amsterdam.
The location was perfectly situated in the city center, close to the Dom Church, large canal shops and restaurants, within walking distance to Hoog Catharina Mall and Utrecht Centraal Train Station, which is just a 25-30 min ride directly into Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The rooms along the canal are stylishly decorated, have a small refrigerator, comfortable indoor seating, large bathroom, and patio chairs that you can sit in front of your room and relax while watching boats and ducks float by along the canal on.
The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was convenient for both the railway station and the city centre. Although the hotel has no breakfast room, croissants / coffee / orange juice were available in the lobby, and in any case it was just a few minutes' walk to some very nice breakfast venues (Teds, Toastable and the spectacular Bunk).
We had a perfect stay at Karel V. Very friendly staff, a modern and clean room and a delicious, fresh breakfast in a truly majestic ambiance. The fine quality of everything in the room and the hotel including very comfortable beds, added to a perfect experience.
Furthermore, Karel V is located centrally in Utrecht, so the city is yours without the need of cycling or driving.
The room was clean, cosy and comfortable. The location is good, not in the city centre but right next to the main train station in Utrecht. The value for the money is good, I have missed the breakfast, which is not included in the pice of the room, but it is to pay extra.
Situated on the 12th floor, I really liked the lookout and the sunset view from the room.
The room facilities are very complete. The floor in the room has a sound-proof design. It is not easy to hear the sound of pushing suitcases or footsteps. The lights in the bed can be adjusted to different colors, and the curtains have a good light-proof effect! And this hotel is very close to Utrecht Centraal station! The service staff also serve very well)
The view of the station Utrecht Centraal was wonderful. The swimming pool was busy most of the time. But we found some moments that weren't crowded at the pool and it's fantastic. The location of the hotel is fantastic. There's a nice supermarket, shopping mall and train station next to the hotel. We will come back again for a shopping holiday for sure.
The hotel had already accommodated a change to the booking prior to arrival to give us interconnecting rooms.
The staff were very welcoming and efficient during our stay.
The hotel rooms were comfortable, well equipped and clean and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is in a great location close to the station and the city centre.
The hotel is located very centrally, and the paid parking on the the premises was very convenient, if there still is a spot. Staff was friendly, room was squeaky clean and comfortable enough to work or chill in. View over the train station and city centre was a nice little bonus. Breakfast was very decent. Would book again.
Ted was so smiley and very very sweet. He kept regarding me by my name and I found it endearing( maybe it's unusual for him?? Dunno) The breakfast was very nice and the overall vibe of the hotel and him was 10/10 If I come to Utrecht again I'm definitely staying there again if possible
Everything! The quality of a 4 stars hotel with the price of an hostel... The hostel is located in the city centre, you car arrive there by walking 10 minutes from the train station. Many bars and restaurant are located in the district. I'd have liked to spend there more days...
I expect a bigger sized room. The room was clean. However, there was no almirah. However, the bed quality was very nice. The breakfast was a buffet, and many different choices were there. I recommend this hotel for roaming Utrecht, Amsterdam, Keukenhof, and Giethroon.
The location was very convenient as the hotel is within the shopping mall right in front of the Utrecht Central train station. The breakfast had a good variety and the self making waffle was fun. The well decorated big lobby was a good meeting place.
The room was great, clean and cozy. The bathroom was very nice, too.
There was a LED light near the bed when you woke up during the night. Great decision. The location of the hotel is perfect - near the city center and Central train station.
rooms are really big they will give you the whole floor wc, bathroom are in the different rooms. everything was super clean. there was a small balcony. the view from your room is amazing and hotel is in the heart pf utrecht
Exceptional area with very friendly and helpful staff. I would highly recommend this Hotel for a relaxing and pleasant stay in the Utrecht area. Top class !
