A vibrant yet chilled out place to visit. Loved all the cafe and bars and small streets where you can meander and wander in and out of lovely shops. Some of our party went to the top of the bell tower, quite hard going but amazing views. We also visited the Roman ruins under the tower, very interesting and good fun. Also spent a leisurely hour and a half on a a canal river trip, highly recommended! Went to several restaurants, great, reasonably priced food and far too much good wine and beer. Really lovely place, have been here several times and love it more each visit. There's lots to see and places to eat and watch the world go by. As it has a University there are lots of students around which adds to its vibrancy. It's a strange mix of busy and quiet in parallel. Watch out for the bikes as you're in the Netherlands, this took a little getting used to but it does mean there are not so many cars which is lovely. I am in love with this city.
I am in love with this city. Utrecht is a reduced and improved Amsterdam. A very romantic and charming city with canals, parks, narrow streets, neat houses and various entertainments. It reminds me of a model of a puppet city. Everything is clean and tidy, people are smiling, calm and friendly. It's not a small town, but the central part can be explored on foot and the more remote parts by bike or car. There are plenty of places to picnic and walk around and it's only 30 minutes from the bustel of Amsterdam.
