A small quiet place, with some possibilities for cycling and walking. The main reason for my visit was for an afternoon reception at Repton under 2 miles distant. I took a short walk along the nearby river on the Friday evening, and on the Saturday morning cycled to the Foremark reservoir, an attractive location about 9 miles away. A small cafe provided coffee and light refreshments, with some sailing and windsurfing activity visible at the club on the opposite shore. I cycled back to Derby on the Sunday via the nearby Greenway which follows an old railway line, an excellent traffic free track suitable for cycling and walking. A main road runs through Newton Solney with light traffic during my weekend visit.
