The Undiscovered Asian Capital
Capital of the Republic of China (commonly known as Taiwan), huge Taipei is surrounded by mountains. Taipei 101, once the world’s tallest building, dominates its skyline from Xinyi, an area known for the most active nightlife.
At Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall the national flag is raised every morning and the guard changed every hour. Less known for tourists is National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, containing a tall bronze statue of the country’s founding father.
Of the wealth of Taipei museums, the best are Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines and the National Palace Museum – one of world’s largest collections of Chinese artifacts. Even more numerous are the temples dedicated to Buddhist, Taoist and Chinese folk religions. Xinsheng South Road is nicknamed ‘Road to Heaven’ for its sheer number, but most famous is Longshan Temple in Wanhua, the oldest district.
Taipei shopping is fantastic and includes Core Pacific Living Mall, supposedly Asia’s largest. The Ximending area has lots of shops (and karaoke), while the Shilin Night Market should not be missed. For a break from the bustle head to central Daan Forest Park, the botanical gardens with its lotus ponds,or Yangmingshan National Park, known for hot spring baths and spring cherry blossom.
Whether you fly into Songshan or Taiwan Taoyuan Airport, efficient public transport takes you to the Taipei hotels on Booking.com.

Only food, perhaps it's not suitable for someone like the healthy style because a majority of them are oily.

Several times during my short stay people went well out of their way to help me. One on occasion, an older lady who was getting her hair done in the salon where I got a hair cut left her chair walked me down the steps of the shop and out into the street and about 20 yards to an intersection to ensure I did not get lost and found my destination. Taipei Taiwanese during the days I spent there seemed to be a fine people, their city clean and safer than many US large cities. I don't think they will like mainland China coming in and taking over. I visited a couple of great temples and had great suppers.

Taipei is one of my favourite cities in Asia - relatively low cost, good food and excellent nightlife.
It's a great place for a few days getaway - if you're based in Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong or Singapore, Taipei is a perfect getaway destination.

The transportation and hotel bookings are excellent, and the food is reasonably cheap. Taiwan is generally clean but some areas have a sewer smell problem due to an old system. People are friendly and helpful. Nobody rejects you if you ask for the road direction. Taipei is modern, but smaller villages are old. The scooters pile up full on the pedestrian walk, and we have no way to walk around. By all means, it is a beautiful place to visit.

Where to start . .
Where to start . . Petrol scooters everywhere and the fumes are choking the city. It is impossible to use sidewalks for the scooters parked everywhere. The country has a huge mosquito plague and only one hotel we stayed at had a fly screen on the window - even with insect repellent expect to be covered in bites during your stay. Taiwan in general does not demonstrate environmental awareness, plastic and single use packaging is everywhere and ironically, you will struggle to find any garbage bins on the street, at bus stops, train stations or on malls. Eating choices usually involve businesses with poor food handling procedures - did not see one single salad in the 5 cities I visited. The quality of fruit is outstanding which may be associated with the number of temples across the country. I could not find maps or attraction brochures in English at any of the 5 hotels I stayed in or at 2 government information centres I visited. There is no discount shopping, only premium prices. Overall I found the locals to be quite racist and wilfully unfriendly. Taiwan is not ready to welcome international tourists, check back in 10 years to see if anything has improved.
Finders Hotel is perfectly located in a great strategic location, a walking distance to the Main Station and Ximending. Very close to the Peace Memorial Park. It's really easy to get around! There are also many convenient stores and bus stops nearby. Accommodating staff from lobby to room services. Great buffet Breakfast. On top of that FREE COFFEE, NOODLES, SODAS and more at the lobby. It was also very easy and smooth to extend our stay for 2 more days due to our flight being delayed because of a typhoon.
Everything about this hotel is five star except the price. Although the lobby with its small size was a little underwhelming, I soon found out the staff and service is as good as any luxury hotel. They make a point of always opening the door when you enter and that's just the start of it. I loved the location too. MRT is 5 minutes walk away, and also Taipei Main Station is within walking distance at about 15 minutes. Everything is nearby from luxury shopping to breakfast and dining.
The hotel is just a short walk away from Taipei Main Station, which wins massive points from me. The room was surprisingly big for a budget accomadation, which was a pleasant surprise. The toilet seat has advanced features like a bidet and a heated seat, and the vinyl flooring means it's likely cleaner than a room with carpeted flooring. Plus there's a good number of shopping, food options, and convenience stores around the area, including a McDonalds right downstairs!
The historic Grand Hotel is a cultural landmark, and our suite did not disappoint in any way. It is a beautiful hotel and appointed in high style, from the extensive breakfast buffet to the hilltop grounds. Of all our interactions with staff, the most impressive were the Concierge staff, who were unfailingly courteous and knowledgeable and gracious in helping us to resolve a variety of travel issues. It’s a lovely post from which to explore Taipei!
OBSESSED with this hotel. GREAT staff. Great rooms. Spa amenities were amazing. Lovely location. I like that they offer a shuttle service. Whoever does the staffing does a great job - kind, polite and nice people no matter what job they did! The staff also spoke GREAT English no matter their role. This was nice as they could offer me good recommendations for things to do. Treat yourself and stay here.
The upscale decor and ambience inside the bldg, comfortable bedroom, nice jacuzzi tub although pressure from whirlpool is too weak.
Big park across street and various eating places make life easier.
MRT and buses right outside hotel
Nice hotel staff
Afternoon tea time. I missed most of it but they set a small tray of snacks in my room knowing I was out. That's thoughtful.
The original rate is a bit too high and actually, that's one of the reasons why I chose. Puremeworld can only be a local boutique hotel which also accepts hourly stay. And the facilities are not really to the standard of international business hotel. But if comparing to other hotels in taipei, it can be a choice if you want to stay in this area and the CP ratio is high.
The staff of the hotel is super friendly. So no bad experience there.
The location is also fine; it's in the older area of Taipei, close to the MRT and there are a lot of restaurants and coffee bars within walking distance.
Note that cleaning of the room is done any other day and not daily (not an issue as at home I also do not daily change my bedding).
Everything was super clean and the the vibe theme was "earth friendly". This was the fist time I had seen this in a capsule hotel. Super convenient to main train station, subways and buses. I was easily able to get to a small park about an hour away to play pickleball with some locals, way out to Shiffen Falls and Old Street as well as Taipei 101.
I like the location and parking. As we need the parking, so we have no choice to stay at the hotel a little bit far from the main road that make this hotel is quiet and good for sleeping. It is unexpected that the location is at the center you can easily go to Shilin market or go to the Zhongshan road for good and cheap food.
Clean and fancy decors. Not bad for the locations. it was quite. Good affordable food restaurants across the hotel. Room were small compared to some to some other hotels in Taipei City. We stayed for a short period at the hotel and mostly out from early morning. Didn’t spend much time with the facilities available.
We've been at this hotel the second time and would surely come back. It's in New Taipei but as the next metro stations are close by (10 min by foot) it is easy to reach any destination in Taipei by public transport. There is even a shuttle bus from the airport, which stops right in front of the hotel.
I like everything just the issue with no parking and also because of Covid-19 the entrance is closed. I think the instructions of how to get into the hotel should be made clear. Especially as a foreigner, I cannot read any Chinese. English instructions will be appreciated.
Very comfortable hotel, ideally located near Daan Park, perfect to visit Taipéi. The room, bed and bathroom (with hot tub) were very comfortable. A special mention to the kindness and flexibility of all the team.
I like the 1. park at the back; 2. the clean room; 3. the balcony view; 4. the Japanese style toilet; 5. the lounge with the books; 6. the hotel location; and 7. that breakfast was not overwhelming.
Excellent location. Close to National Museum, Peace Park, and NTU station, just one stop from Taipei Main Station. It's like a dormitory-style capsule hotel. Staff were very friendly.
Big windows 😊
Quiet and calm location with breakfast shops nearby. Near garden.
I like the scallion roti with ham and egg from the cart nearby the hotel.😊
