Awesome ocean views (especially at sunset!), great natural history museum, delicious seafood. Lovely, walkable town (love the info on the old houses saying when they were built, and who the original owner was.) Kayaking, snorkeling, bicycling, golf, butterfly viewing all easily accessible and enjoyable almost year round.
Car is recommended, although to be fair I've never tried the public transportation system.

I love all the different types of shops the downtown has to offer. There are also excellent restaurants & little spots for coffee or tea. I love that it's near the seaside & some forest areas to explore. Downtown Monterey is just a very few minutes away. It's all a very relaxing part of the world.

Pacific Grove is a beautiful coastal town with many things to do and see. Just enough of what is needed is nearby but not overdone like a gas station on every corner, etc. The Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is an amazing experience if you visit during the monarch migration season. Thousands of monarch butterflies to see. The beaches are stunning along the coastline and Monterey is just a stones throw away which offers more adventures. You really can't go wrong with this idyllic place.

One of our favorite places to visit.
One of our favorite places to visit. Pacific Grove has a real small town feel, but has wonderful restaurants (Red House Cafe, Bookworks Coffee) and the walking trail along the ocean is one of my favorite things to do. It is also close to other amazing places like Point Lobos, Big Sur and Pinnacles National Park. Try renting an E-bike and riding the stunning 17 Mile Drive from Pacific Grove to Carmel and back.

From our motel it was a short distance (walkable for young legs) to the ocean and the butterfly grove. There are great restaurants in Pacific Grove and nearby. Red House Cafe, Beach House (Lover's Point), Fishwife Restaurant are the ones we enjoyed. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Drive carefully, deer roam all around town night and day.

I love this area and have stayed in Pacific Grove several times now as I used to live in California. Pacific Grove is an ideal location to explore from with Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur all in good driving distance. It has all the amenities you could want; fabulous range of places to eat, wide variety of local shops and galleries, of course, without being too resorty. The locals are very friendly and gladly share the history of the area. It's a perfect location for a quiet get away.
Crispy clean, very well-maintained old-fashioned hotel in a quiet eucalyptus grove, with charming stairs, spacious and airy rooms, deer walking around, it is an island of calmness of a century back in time. Cross the road and get your dinner, the Sunset beach is 20 minutes walk, ( we are slow), Pacific Grove with it's coffee and restaurants is in walking distance too, overall is five stars, we wish to stay there again if we visit Monterey someday.
Historical building with Victorian charm. I stayed in one of the cottages with my family and it was prefect size for four of us. The facility is clean and staff are friendly. The inn provide a light breakfast and wine and cookies in the evening. Location is just few minutes walk to Lovers Point beach and Pacific Grove downtown (many restaurants to choose from).
I liked everything! I came to Pacific Grove multiple times and stayed in different places, but this hotel is the best in it's category. Location is perfect! Walking distance to the ocean, trails, all sightseeing. The bed and the mattress itself was just perfect. Comfortable spacy room, quiet fridge, nice bathroom.
Nice little hotel very near to the ocean and the sunset execept it is foggy. Small cabins with possibility to sit in the garden. And in the morning nice and simple breakfast/Self service. I love that place more than Monterey. When ever I come back to that region I will book it again.
Great location, lots of good restaurants within 5 mins walk. Hotel rooms were lovely, comfy bed, coffee and tea always available. Breakfast excellent and extra touch of cheese and wine early evening was fantastic. Thoroughly recommend, much better than a soulless motel!
Great location with free parking on the street/at the hotel. Very cosy feeling, room was inviting with a great view towards the bay. Breakfast room was great, too. Great variety of breakfast items. Great place to slow down and just enjoy being.
Really good hotel in Pacific Grove, close to the beach and to Lighthouse Ave (Pacific Grove's main avenue). The hotel is located in a very quiet location which is great and the staff is pretty friendly. The hot tub outside works just fine.
No breakfast was available but the staff served excellent coffee at 8 am each morning. The location of the Butterfly Inn was conveniently located near the downtown of Pacific Grove so you could walk to restaurants and shops.
The Hotel is good. essential but good. Unfortunately, the breakfast was not served. Cleaning is ok. To make it even better I suggest adding one table or a desktop to work on the computer in the room and to serve breakfast.
tucked away in quite Pacific Grove, walkable to beach, close to Monterey/Carmel. Very quite & lovely property, cottages w usable kitchens, beds comfortable, hot tub, ping pong/games. Dog friendly w small fee.
Great location of the hotel. Great territory and most importantly it was quiet. Close to ocean, restopans and other attractions. Large room. Clean and comfortable.
i love the location of the hotel and how big the cottages are and very comfortable. i love how we can sit outside and enjoy the fire pit in the evenings.
