We didn't plan ahead to go to Salem, we just chose a hotel...
We didn't plan ahead to go to Salem, we just chose a hotel that had availability and then found something to do nearby. So we arrived and visited the Cistercian Abbey which was quite nice. There are other options in Salem but we ate dinner at the Jagerhof Restaurant in Uhldingen-Mühlhofen next door to the Tractor Museum that we would like to visit on another trip. In the morning we drove to Pfahlbauten (Stilt House Museum) also in Uhldingen-Muhlhofen. Plenty to do in the area of Salem.KarenUnited States - 10Scored 10

Salem has a nice abbey and castle that are certainly worth a visit. It is also a good base to visit the surroundings. The Zeppelinmuseum in Friedrichshafen, the piledwelling museum in Uhldingen- Muhlofen and also Switserland are close to.

As a hotel guest you are entitled to free access to the palace compound, a very nice bonus. The look of the hotel is rather old fashioned, but oozes out a lot of character. We had our bikes with us to get from the railway station to the hotel.ManfredGermany
