Booking a room in a dorm is always a risk, but I was fortunate to be the only one in the room so could make myself very much at home. It's a beautiful unique place with lots of character. The ensuite shower room was a big surprise - modern, clean and far better than you can sometimes get in a regular B&B!
I only wish I could have stayed a bit longer to make the most of the facilities and the local area. It would also be fun to come in a group.
I did not meet Denise but all the communication both online and on arrival (plus instructions in the hostel) was easy to follow and I felt safe as a solo female traveller.

I have known Brough for a long time and have found the locals to be friendly and ready to help with information if required. The village is quiet with two Pubs which serve meals. I dined at INN Hotel the food was good. There is a village shop which caters for most items you might need and has nice staff. The village is a good starting point for outdoor activities. The village has good footpaths so easy to get around. Kirby Stephen is four miles away which has a train station and a Co-op supermarket and post office if required.
We stayed here as a stopover from Scotland. The room was lovely, and the bathroom was luxurious but after the quiet of the Highlands, the placing of the bar tables right next to the road instead of in the spacious yard was disappointing. At the front of the building there is noise from the hotel's own bar as well as two bars opposite. This is not bad enough to be a big problem, and we slept well. Breakfast was fine and served with a smile.
Myself and my Son were staying in the Lady Anne Suite which was definitely 5☆
Felt like a pent house, very spacious, bedroom with comfortable beds and bedding. This suite also included a lounge and an extremely impressive spacious bathroom suite with walk in shower and a bath with a built in TV. It was clean and comfortable and Myself and my Son were very happy with the accommodation provided by The Inn at Brough.
Perfect place for a quiet retreat with the best of welcomes from all the staff and especially Helen who goes over and above to make you welcome.
Great room in a lovely hotel with everything you need to be comfortable and extra friendly people from the village
Staff were amazing and very accommodating, rooms and hotel was very clean, beds were by far the best I have ever slept in, slept like a log. There were 7 of us staying and everyone commented about how comfortable they were and how well they slept.
The staff were extremely helpful. Dawn and Alison in particular. The location was very quiet and nothing much going on in Brough! But I visited Appleby, Kirby Stephen, and Kendal, plus Brough castle. All worth a visit.
