Southport is ok. Just not Balmoral Lodge hotel. As a seaside resort there are much nicer places In the North west but it is ok, I suppose. I wouldn't choose to come here for a holiday but as a single woman visiting her mother in a care home in Bootle, I thought I may feel more comfortable in the evening here than closer to Liverpool. However, I didn't feel very safe in the hotel unfortunately although it felt ok walking up and down Lord St after dark to stretch my legs. For a walk near the sea Crosby sea front is far nicer - you can walk there for a few miles across the beach and along the coastal path towards Formby. The Anthony Gormley statues there add to the atmosphere and are well worth seeing. The sea or at least the Mersey is visible and very present there even if the tide is out. However Southport is seaside without any actual sea although I suppose it is pleasant enough in its own sweet , slightly run down way. The sea is rarely visible, be warned if you want sea.

Southport still has some pleasant hotels for either a short recuperative stay, or to use as a base for other visits to local villages and sites further inland. Lord St still has it's shops fronted by covered/canopied pavement. There's golf if that's your thing. Many visitors I meet there are often from around or beyond the Pennines, the north-east, or just down the line from Liverpool: the attraction seems to be that of a calm rejuvenating few days.

We love Southport and feel at home here. There's lots to do.
We love Southport and feel at home here. There's lots to do. Of course, it is better in summer time when we visit the beaches and the fairground is open but we can always find something to do. Everything is close together, lots of bars,.cafes, shops. takeaways, restaurants to choose from. Bowling, child friendly Brewers Fayre, cinema, kids soft play.

Great beaches, old fashioned streets and buildings.
Great beaches, old fashioned streets and buildings. Great shopping areas. Birkdale village has top rated restaurants while Churchtown village is awash with tea shops and antique places. It is a Grade 1 listed village. Abundant shopping and facilities in the area. And the most beautiful parks you will find anywhere.

Southport is a traditional seaside resort town, there is some very competitively priced accommodation, shops and people seem friendly.
There is an assortment of bars and cafes and even late night entertainment if preferred.
Southport beach is as flat as a pancake, historically was used for speed trials and light aircraft sight seeing landing and take-off. The sea tend to come in and catch out the unwary who walk out to find it at low tide. Ainsdale a bit further down has sand dunes etc.
There is a large lake at Hesketh park full of birdlife, children's playpark all free. Free street parking around it.
There is a large wetland wild bird sanctuary Martin Mere [800 acres] open to the public not far away, worth a visit, weather permitting.

Good selection of cafes and restaurants.Try and smarten up the verandas on Lord street. They are worth persevering. They look very run down atm grass growing on top of them and rusty.Lots of empty shops now.
After reading quite a lot of poor reviews I nearly opted to cancel and book another hotel…it just goes to show how wrong it would of been of me to do that.
The hotel is dated but our rooms where clean, comfortable and cheap.one room was on the first floor and the other on the fourth.
I can’t comment on the food because I dinned out both days.but overall excellent for the price.
I’d definitely book here again the next time I stay in Southport.
Room was large, high ceilings
A little dated, curtains a bit shabby.
Bed was comfortable enough, no concerns with that
Room was quiet at night
Bathroom was fine and so was the shower.
Just generally hotel is dated, but i felt i got what i was expecting and paid for.
Didn't have breakfast as Wetherspoons is over the road.
Great location on the main street of Southport. Shops easily accessible
Nice hotel, very modern with attractive decor and in good repair. Lovely, comfy Queensize bed. Overall excellent and perfect if you're in Southport for an event or evening out. Breakfast was across the road at the sister hotel, The Bold, which is also very nicely designed and maintained. Breakfast was extremely nice and generous portions.
I booked Edendale for my Step sons who were visiting family in Southport (their mother was born there and her mother still lives in the town). They tell me they had a great time and really rated the hotel. It will definitely be our first choice of a place to stay for future visits which are frequent.
Location, availability of on site parking, decor and size of the room were great.
The bed was so comfortable and the room was spotless.
Staff were all friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good.
If I was ever needing an overnight stay in Southport again I will be using this hotel.
Excellent room at a very reasonable price, great facilities with everything I needed to make my stay in Southport very enjoyable, really helpful staff and the hotel is ideally situated for all the sight's and amenities that Southport has to offer, just booked my next stay, highly recommend
Handy location, a few minutes walk from town centre. Clean, comfortable, well equipped, homely and had a great nights sleep as the area was so quiet and beds were very comfortable. Better value for money than hotel rooms for our stay in Southport. Cannot fault this property at all
Great value for money. An excellent base for discovering Southport. The lady who cleaned the rooms was really nice a real credit to the hotel. The bed was super comfy 😍 I would definitely use this hotel again for a break in Southport
Room was large and clean. Hotel location was great. Excellent selection for breakfast. Right by the pier and crazy golf. Not too far from the town center. Car parking in the basement very good.
It was lovely from when we first walked in the family run staff was very nice and welcoming.
It was so modern and clean best hotel in Southport for me and I've been a few times to Southport.
I could not fault this hotel, the location was excellent, the rooms beautiful, the breakfast lovely and the staff were always on hand and very helpful and friendly
Southport is such a cute town, even in the winter. The hotel is located in the perfect spot and the room was more like an apartment than a hotel, which is nice.
