I loved the interior and all the facilities. The room was spacious for a hotel room in Japan. Additionally, I liked that it was very centrally located (next to Karasuma Station), which allowed for easy access to everything, but it was not in the crowded tourist area of Shijo. Everything was so clean, and the shared bath had a great view to a garden space.

I was told this was the cultural heart of Japan and am so glad we made it a part of our trip. A beautiful city with a casual, artsy vibe. So many shrines and temples - I wish I had made more time to explore. So many great places to eat! Gear Theatre's show was amazing! Also we enjoyed Arashiyama Monkey Park. We took cabs (easy to flag down or schedule with the apps) pretty much everywhere and saw so much of the city this way. I did not expect the crickets to be so loud while walking around in the morning but it was easy to get used to - sort of like the music that malls play in the background while you are shopping. Will absolutely return to explore this beautiful place more thoroughly!

Kyoto was probably our favourite city during our trip to Japan, thanks to its rich history, beautiful temples, and charming districts like Gion. Even with the less-than-ideal weather, the city’s atmosphere was unforgettable. The only disappointment was not being able to fully enjoy Fushimi Inari Taisha or complete the hike due to the weather, which is why we’re already planning to return. Next time, we’ll make sure to explore more and experience Kyoto in better conditions. It must be especially beautiful during spring season.

Kyoto has a different feel than Tokyo, it is more traditional and smaller. It has many shrines and temples that are outstanding. It is between the mountains and the views are very good. Some of the shrines are lit at night and there is a very nice experience to go in the city durig the evening. We visited temples, shrines, bamboo forest, monkey park, Gion - the gheisha district, traditional streets. It has a good variety of activities.

Truly unique. Plenty to see, you trip over World Heritage Sites. The mountains are always visible in the near distance, a pretty town. Easy to navigate with road names and bus stops in English. My favourite spot was Nishiki market after 11 am. Very safe place.

There was so much to see in Kyoto and you need a few days at least. It was the loveliest and most interesting city in Japan. We spent 6 days in Kyoto including one day in Osaka, which was perfect. Best spots were the waling tour of the Gion and eastern hills and the Fushimi Inari walking tour Food was good everywhere.

    I love Kyoto.

I love Kyoto. I always feel like I would enjoy it even more if I could speak Japanese and interact more with the people. They are very welcoming, but I feel there is always just another layer of history and experience that I am missing out on without the language.

Absolutely stunning hotel in a beautiful location close to Gion and the main temples. The rooms are big for Japanese standards and have the best showers I think I’ve ever experienced! The laundry facilities were an absolute godsend and the rooftop bar is also stunning. Eco friendly… you can tell a lot of thought has gone into every detail. The bakery is heavenly and I’d come again just for the pastries! I didn’t try the restaurant but it looks awesome and a good selection of western and Japanese cuisine on offer.

I booked a single room with shared bathroom. The room was very small but it was no surprise for Japan :) The restroom was very clean, the staff friendly, the breakfast was offered in a café nearby, just 30 steps from the hotel. It might not be the best one in town, but sufficient to start the day with energy :) The hotel is quiet and yet in a good position, not so far from Gion, has shopping facilities not far away and is at walking distance from the station (more or less 20 minutes or a subway stop)

So, this is definitely one of those hotels you go to for one specific purpose. BUT, we had a great 5 day there and it was the best price we found in Kyoto and the biggest room we had in Japan! It is clean, the staff are pretty nice (even though you hardly ever seen any). It was all super quiet too. 10 minute walk to the subway station. Easy to get to Nara and Kyoto. Convenience stores 2 minute walk away. I think this hotel is the ultimate hack for Kyoto!

It felt lika a boutique hotel with charm, personal and kind service. The staff was kind and helpful. The evening drink, wine, other beverages and snacks spread was very nice bonus. Also, very close to the Higashiyama subway station and the beutiful little creek running through east Gion district to Nikishi district. Very nice evening trolls back from the market.

It was conveniently located near the metro station, and the staff were incredibly lovely and helpful.
