Main place I visited was Benmore Botanical Gardens - lots to explore and the rhododendrons and azaleas in May are spectacular. No cafe now sadly but a short trip away in Blairmore there is a cafe run by the lady who used to run the cafe at Benmore - didn't manage to visit it this time but was recommended to me. I stayed at the Creggans Inn and mainly ate there - excellent place to stay or visit for a meal - food was superb and a good base for exploring the area. Roads well maintained and easy to get round - visited Inverary Castle on the other side of the loch. Again superb gardens and the castle itself is stunning well worth visiting. The town itself also very picturesque. On the way to Inverary there is the Loch Fyne Restaurant and Tree shop garden centre and cafe - well worth a visit and picked up some beautiful rhododendrons at the tree shop. Nearby there is also a local farm brewery Fyne Ales - it has a shop and taproom where you can sample their ales and buy them or have a coffee and cake ! The weather was a bit patchy - usually it is fine in May but nonetheless a superb place to visit.

Excellent views of the loch in a quiet location.
Excellent views of the loch in a quiet location. Start the day with a breakfast of scrambled egg and smoked salmon then if not going anywhere stroll around the garden. In the evening after dinner, take a moment at the large picture windows and view the sunset.

Friendly reception and easy quick check in.
The bedroom was reasonably comfortable with a bathroom which could possibly benefit from some modernisation.
The confirmation of my reservation via Booking.com clearly stated: "Double Room with Garden View".
There was NO garden view! The view was of a rough area of gravel and a minor road.
I queried this fact with the hotel and I was informed that they had reported this discrepancy in the room description to Booking .com on a number of separate occasions.
The evening meal was excellent.
Breakfast, in wonderful sunshine with a nice view from the large windows of the delightful dining room, was very good.

Fabulous Inn modern but maintains integrity of the original building. Views are absolutely amazing..food is always excellent and sourced locally such as scallops from Loch Fyne. Near to some wonderful off the beaten track drives, an arboretum and beautiful hills and countryside as well as Invarary and its wonderful castle. Glasgow is under 2 hours drive including a lovely short ferry trip. It truly is at the gateway to Scotland.

Strachur is a tranquil and unspoiled location, ideal for exploring the Secret Coast of Loch Fyne and the surrounding area if Argyll. Must visit eating places are Inver restaurant and the Oystetcatcher pub. Lots of great walks in the area and opportunities for other outdoor pursuits.
charming hotel with great sea view and with
potential but in urgent need of
renovation. furniture is due for replacement.
stains on the carpets and seating area which
gave me the impression that it was not always
as clean as it should be. staff was friendly.
breakfast was great. had dinner twice: first time
really disappointing and second time ok (burger).
room was big enough (had a superior room), bed
and shower were good.
Lovely hotel with old world charm, beautifully appointed rooms with a huge bathroom which had both a shower and a bath.
The restaurant menu was really good and the food was cooked to perfection, The best scallops I have ever tasted.
The breakfast menu had a great choice and I can definitely recommend the Loch Fyne Kippers.
The staff were really friendly ..... a really lovely hotel.
Scenery, wildlife and fresh air. Forest walks at Glenbranter, Pucks Glen, hill monument at Inveraray Castle, Benmore Botanic Gardens, Creggans Inn, Whistlefield Inn, George Hotel, Loch Fyne Brewery, Quadmania near Dunoon, kayaking Carrick Castle Farm at Lochgoilhead, worth pre-booking activities in peak season as some others were full , shore sea loch fishing right on doorstep etc.
We loved the location of the hotel, our room (5) was nicely decorated, furnished with comfy bed, large bathroom, great views and very comfortable.
Service was good, the breakfast was great and the common areas of the hotel (lounges, bar, restaurant) are all really nicely done out. They have a couple of benches lochside which are just amazing for sunset drinks.
The staff is what makes this place. They are generous, accommodating, have a can-do attitude, think out of the box, and make you feel at home without being overbearing. We felt immediately at ease. Even unusual requests were met with a “or course”.
Fishing off the bank of the loch right below the hotel was fun too.
Friendly and welcoming staff. Nice room with beautiful views - even from the bathroom!
We ate in the hotel both nights of our stay and the food was absolutely delicious. The inclusive breakfast was also delicious with a wide choice available..
A comfortable and welcoming Scottish country hotel, located in a most scenic area, providing an excellent level of service, including excellent cuisine. Located thirty minutes from Dunoon, so is handy for the Cowal Gathering.
Beautiful location and very comfortable room. Dog friendly hotel. The food was great and a good choice for breakfast.
Had to drive out for dog walks as quite a remote area. Stunning scenery.
Had a lovely two night stay here.
The hotel was beautifully clean and very comfortable with nice light communal seating areas. All food was very tasty and nicely prepared. Staff were lovely - very friendly and attentive. We felt well looked after.
We had another wonderful weekend at this amazing hotel. Location is fab with stunning loch views from most rooms. Staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. And food is delicious!
