As elsewhere in Cappadocia, the centre of Ürgüp is full of lovely old stone houses clustered around a central rock formation, in this case Temenni Tepesi (Temenni Hill, Wish Hill).
It makes a good base for visiting all the main attractions of Cappadocia, including the rock-cut churches and the underground cities.
There is a small local museum inside the park in the centre of Ürgüp.

A friendly town with plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops.
A friendly town with plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops. It felt safe to walk around at night, the shops remaining open until 10pm which is helpful if on excursions all day. We found a very helpful taxi driver who took us to various places for a fair price. It has a Hamman which I would loved to have tried if there was more time

It's a quieter town and by that i mean it's very different from Goreme. If you want quiet - come here. We did have a car which was absolutely a must and when we wanted to go to Goreme, we took cabs. They do alter the prices here and there on the cabs, but standard price was 170 TL each way.

Urgup was a nice smaller town that was cheaper than Goreme.
Urgup was a nice smaller town that was cheaper than Goreme. We still had access to activities and most companies still picked us up at our hotel for the activities. The food was less expensive than Goreme. We walked the alleys and side streets and enjoyed seeing the architecture.

Small town with beautiful views.
Small town with beautiful views. It doesn't feel as "Vegas" as the other towns, a calmer and more local feel. Restaurants, markets, travel agencies to arrange tours, and souvenirs. Very close to all the sites.

We were very happy to go to Urgup as it had a few of authenticity to it… both Goreme and Uchisar seemed smaller and more touristic! We had many apéros and tried many restaurants on top of the old town overlooking the beautiful old city!
Cosy hotel, close to Urgup town centre. Rooms were large and warm enough with working TV and cave hotel-like features, and extra bed provided for son. Slippers provided too. Bathroom was large with jacuzzi, which worked well - my son lived it. Breakfast spread was good, with fries, etc, cooked fresh, and provided in room with a view. Staff were friendly and organised a taxi at short notice for us - turned out to be a "luxury" vehicle with a price to match. Located in quiet area, five mins walk from town centre.
From the moment we stepped in to the minute we left, we felt as if we are home guests. The hotel is a family business, run by Mehmet, the owner, his wife (excellent cook with lots of home grown and home made Turkish food). The staff, and everyone are looking to serve and add value to your stay. If you’re looking to stay in a real “ cave “ room (suite) in a quiet and welcoming place, then Taru cave is the place for you. Would definitely recommend.
It is best value for money around this part of Cappadocia. Nicely located, luxury appointed rooms that are actually built in the rock in the 350 year old villa that is absolutely gorgeous. Terrace and the view, the sheer tranquillity of the place is amazing. Staff and owner are extremely helpful and kind. Breakfast was very nice, try omelet with mushrooms. Also the hotel can book your for balloon ride or any other attraction you could desire.
SOTA Cappadocia was a incredible place with an amazing ambiance and fantastic location. But what made it even better were the people. Nil provided us with endless suggestions right down to what to order for dinner at all of her favourite restaurants- we were never disappointed! Her staff, Yunus, Meltem and Hibe were incredibly attentive to all our needs and their smiling faces made us feel right at home. Thanks SOTA for the lovely stay!
Under cave is the great hotel to stay at, family-friendly, clean and very beautiful! Yasin (one of the managers there) helped us with everything starting from the best places to go and Turkish restaurants nearby finishing with organizing balloon flights with super affordable prices. Definitely highly recommended!
PS. We loved Urgüp much more than Göreme, it’s a good idea to stay there especially if you have/rent a car.
We loved everything! The staff are so kind and welcoming, they really care and cater to your needs. The hotel is beautiful, with great rooms and views. We loved staying in the cave room. The breakfast is absolutely wonderful, the best breakfast we’ve ever had on a vacation. Location is great, we liked staying a bit further away from Göreme, in Ürgüp. Quiet and peaceful. We definitely want to stay here again. :)
Brand new hotel in a small city without crowds of tourists. 10-20 minutes by car to the most visited places. In a nutshell regarding location - probably the best in the region. Shortly about hotel - new, clean, good breakfast. But the most important thing is hospitality of Hakan and Fatih who are ready to help with any question even far away from the hotel at any time. This place became our home in Cappadocia.
Last week I stayed at Calypso Suites Cave in Urgup and it was a pleasant experience. They have a room with a hot spring bath-up that is perfect for us after doing adventure activities in Cappadocia. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful whatever you need. At that time, we rented an automatic car at a reasonable price for 1 day. The rooms they have are also very spacious and affordable to live in.
We are a family of eight people. We loved our stay at Fresco Cave Suites. The owners and the entire staff was so friendly and welcoming. They were helpful in setting up an amazing air balloon ride with a local operator and a tour guide.
The breakfast and dinner were wonderful.
We hope we can go back some day and we highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in staying in Urgup and Cappadocia.
Oda cave house is a very cozy, authentic cave hotel with one of the most fantastic hosts we’ve ever come across in our travels.
This 5 room property shines with Mr Sami at its helm. He is a gem of a person and his hospitality won us over completely!
The hotel is very conveniently located in urgup and has an exceptional breakfast spread.
We stayed here for 3 days and had a wonderful time.
Very cozy family hotel with incredible friendly staff.
They were ready to help every single moment. They arranged all the transportation, excursions and so on. The front seat worked 24/7. The night front desk manager Eray was always helpful and always on duty. I felt very safe and welcomed there.
Also the property was in the heart of Urgup that made it very easy. Highly recommend!
The hotel has great architecture, offering nice scenery and the best of comfort. We liked the room, the terraces, the rocks and all the little details that make this place special. It is representing the typical old houses in Cappadocia, bringing contemporary amenities at the same time. It is also very close to the town centre and good local restaurants.
Wonderful new 5 star hotel in a great location. Staff were very friendly and hospitable and made us feel welcome. The rooms were very comfortable and the decoration of the hotel was beautiful and blended perfectly with the theme of Cappadocia. We will definitely be staying at Alden hotel when we come back to visit again ! Highly recommended
I really liked my time there, and I will definitely stay there next time I go to the Cappadocia region. The hotel manager Mrs Ayfer was really helpful in giving information about the region and suggesting interesting places to visit and for dining. They also offer very nice wines for a good price.
Urgup Is absolutely a gem, less touristic than Goreme and the stay at Serinn is a completely stunning experience. Eren, the owner, is so sweet and always available for good suggestions and help to find the best solution to explore Cappadocia. The place is wonderful and every detail is perfect.
It was an exceptional experience to stay at a cave hotel in Cappadocia. Our kids were really excited. My wife and I enjoyed 8 course tasting menu of local cuisine with matching wine at the hotel restaurant. That was a memorable dining experience too.
Clean, cozy, peaceful, basic.
The hotel is in Mustafapasa, 10 minutes away from Urgup. It's a great location for a family. Simple but decent breakfast.
