Wivenhoe House Hotel, hotel in Brightlingsea

Set in the historic grounds of Wivenhoe Park, this 18th-century house is next to the University of Essex campus.

All of it.. I feel like I live in a mansion! Very clean, old-fashioned but posh, the food was excellent! We booked the suite and the room was huge, we even had our living room section, the bathroom was so clean as well. Very near the Uni of Essex, 3 mins walk and I assure you that if you want to really rest your body & mind, this is the place.

    Loved Brightlingsea.

Loved Brightlingsea. We were pleasantly surprised how peaceful and pretty it was. The museum was very interesting and loved the lake & beach huts. We ate at the Yachtsman twice and the Rosebud. Enjoyed our meals at both places. We travelled out most days to Mersea, Dedham, Holland -0n -Sea, Maldon and Colchester and would recommend all these places.

Brightlingsea is a quaint little town.

Brightlingsea is a quaint little town. Only one way in one way out everyone said and it’s true. Lovely fish and chips in Winkees and a great selection in the kebab shop we even brought some home there was so much left over. The pub we stayed in The Freemasons arms is so friendly and live music most weekends. We went to the promanade to see a music festival which although weather not great we still had a great time. Also it’s not far from clacton on sea where there is lots to do there. A great stay.

Location was brilliant. Excellent for exploring Essex and Brightlingsea was lovely. It was a cosy house with good facilities in a very quiet area and a Co-op was literally 5 minutes walk away. Would rate the cottage as 3 star not 4 for the reasons stated below....
