FairBridge Inn and Suites West Point, hotel in Highland Falls

Located in Highland Falls, New York, this hotel is only 1 mile from the West Point Museum and 3 miles from Bear Mountain Zoo.

It had the basics we needed: 1) relatively speaking, very close to West Point, 2) one of the cheapest options in this overpriced area, 3) comfortable beds, and 4) clean. The friendly part-owner of this family business was nice, eager to please, and proud of his hotel. He stated proudly that the room was "newly renovated". While the shower was great, I cannot imagine what the non-renovated rooms looked like. The blankets were "gray girls". The room was clean, except for two towels with one or two tiny specks on them each, that icked out my son, and one little centipede. I would stay here again to save $90-150/night compared to the Thayer. It had a kitchen sink, microwave and minifrig.

Peekskill Guesthouse - Downtown Peekskill, hotel in Highland Falls

Located in Peekskill and within 10 miles of Bear Mountain State Park, Peekskill Guesthouse - Downtown Peekskill has a shared lounge, allergy-free rooms, and free WiFi.

We booked rooms here to attend a concert in town. The location was excellent - an easy walk to downtown. I wasn't sure what to expect from a guest house and was very pleasantly surprised by the comfort, ease, and privacy it offered us. We enjoyed using one of the common areas after returning to the guest house. The security systems in place were a nice peace of mind. We also very much enjoyed meeting the proprietor. Overall, an awesome experience.

Wish there was another choice on site, but there were typical places available in town. Breakfast was the usual choices-very good. Lunch was available but we didnt try.nor did we try the spa. There were trains going by at night but in the distance-we heard them but didnt bother us. Definitely will be back!

Highland Falls itself is not a very interesting town.

Highland Falls itself is not a very interesting town. The United States Military Academy at West Point is spectacular, and has amazing military history, beauty, musical events, and sporting events. The academy makes the town.

This was the cheapest hotel I could find in the area. In situations such as this, I'm always a little leery of what I may find in terms of condition. I was pleasantly surprised that the room was decent (maybe had been updated recently?), had comfortable beds and smelled clean (sometimes older motels smell funky - mold, dirt, smoke - not this room). Pluses: 2 chairs, a desk, counter space, minifridge, microwave, hair dryer, window facing forest, quiet.

Its proximity to West Point and price relative to the other hotels by West Point, cannot be beat. Though still pricey for current quality. Note: The owners are taking all feedback into consideration as are renovating all the rooms and, I believe, the outside appearance. This is a no-frills stay but the staff is courteous and helpful. It is clean and safe. For a place to crash overnight, you cannot beat it.

We hadn't realized it before we arrived, but the village of Highland Falls had been hammered by floods three weeks before our stay. Folks were well into fixing up the town. We had a great time walking around talking to people about what had happened, and were glad we could support the local economy. The village of Cornwall and Stormking State Park were both nearby and great places to visit as well.

Location close to where I was going. For Columbus Day weekend, the price was decent. Other hotels in area jacked prices up to close to $500 a night. Despite most of property being VERY outdated and in need of renovation, the bathroom was very clean. Manager on duty was a very nice man.
