Elounda is a compact small town on a beautiful sheltered bay. Easy to walk around to visit shops and the many restaurants, tavernas and cafes. In high season it's very much a resort but it's also really nice to visit it out of season, when it's just a working town. There are expensive resorts and hotels outside the main town and it's obvious that there is sufficient income for the local authorities to keep the roads, pavements, infrastructure, etc., well maintained, unlike some other places on Crete.

Would be a charming town if not sooo many tourists who are being brough to Elounda with big busses to do boat tours.
Above has impact on prices and daily routine in the town, leaving little space for Cretean live-style.

Elounda is a great place - very pretty, everything you need is within walking distance - you dont really need a car. Beaches are close by, or you can walk further out to them. Bars and restaurants all around - some cheap and cheerful, some traditional some finer dining - but all are excellent.
You can get boats from the harbour/port to various places. Lots of places to visit - Spinalonga, Ag Nik, Heraklion, museums etc
Also if you like walking - there are a lot of options around the peninsula and along to Plaka.
It isnt cheap but isn't expensive. There are A LOT of English people who go to Elounda (regularly) - but its not full of sports bars or English breakfast places!
A really good place for a first timer to Crete or Greece.
Everybody is friendly and its a very chilled out place.

Elunda is a little fishing village that has grown with the tourist industry, loads of taverna's and restaurants easily keep you going for two weeks, some nice bars as well.
We go in May or September, September is still up to 30 deg and the sea is lovely and warm, it is a lot quieter and relaxing with older people being the main tourists.
The town has two good beaches, It overlooks a bay that is guarded by Spinalonga Island formerly a leaper colony and before that a Venetian fort, worth a visit by boat from the harbour.
Along the coast a couple of miles in a Taxi is Placa a charming place to have a meal or a drink in the evening, has some very good restaurants with a beautiful view of Spinalonga.
The other side of Elunda is a large town of Agios Nikolaos Lots of shops and things to see even more restaurants.
We hired a car for a few days and went out and about there are a few interesting arclogiclde sites within an hours radius, Kritsais a very old village inland up in the hills, it is worth a visit with lots of craft shops and taverna's and nice views,
We have been to Elunda 4 times and will go back next year hopefully.

The holiday homes are cultured, there are no vendors on the beach, or loud music. There are a lot of rocks in the sea and the fishes are biting :D, so it's worth wearing water shoes. It's a calm and clean city, the locals are nice, the food and drinks are amazing, they give you big portions. There is a lot of wind in Elounda, but Plaka is really windy. There is some nightlife in the bars, but nothing rough. The vacation here is relaxing and pleasant.

Elounda is outstanding.A number of restaurants are on jetties streching out into Elounda bay.
The Blue Sea Cretan Cuisine and seafood restaurant located in front of my hotel was fabulous! Exceptional food and service at great prices.
Elounda and Spinalonga is full of lovely local shops selling beautiful items, many hand made.
The local people I found to be warm and welcoming.
The atmosphere was relaxed with plenty of available sunbeds on the sea front.
I felt no need to go anywhere else as I was staying for 1 week, although there were boat trips on offer along the sea front. I did get the bus to Agios Nikolaus for 1euro 80 each way around 20 minutes from Elounda.
The pictures don't do this place justice. From the moment you arrive till the moment you leave, you are treated like royalty.
The view from this place is breathtaking. It overlooks the city center of Elounda.
The breakfast is tasty and generous.
The staff are extremely nice, polite and helpful.
The location is perfect, even though it's located on a small hill, it's only 5 minutes away from the city center where all of the restaurants are located.
I highly recommend this place is you're looking for a quiet place to stay.
We have stayed in Elounda Heights for four nights, and it has been an amazing experience. Peaceful, great views and pool, spacious appartements, exceptional home made greek cooking and friendly service. The breakfast was delighful with multiple choices and some small sweet surprises. We also recommend the restaurant at the hotel, with great views and lovely home made cooking! We also got great tips to nearby beaches and sights. We will definitely visit again! Thank you, Kostas&Natalia with staff. Ellen&Jørgen
We stayed in Sapphire Zen Suit with Whirpool. Hotel location was very good. Shuttle service was very helpfull (whenever we called, they came and picked us) The views at Cool Living area and in the room were amazing. People (especially Efi in Greco Levante) and services in A La Carte restaurants were very nice. Good brands of alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks. The barmen Anastasia in Lobby Bar was very good and professional. Check in and check out was very quick and staffs were friendly.
The villa is brand new and we had the privilege of being the first guests. The finish is exceptional and the location absolutely great, just a short walk from the beautiful Elounda town. Our holiday was made even better by Vasia who manages the villa, anything we needed was provided and we had local advice on where to go, where to eat and she booked our excursions. We will definitely be returning next year. Special thanks to Vasia and her family for making our time on Crete so perfect.
It is extremely difficult for me to say what I liked the most. I would say that Elounda Color Apartments has that something that many hoteliers don't have: Modernly furnished, spacious apartments that provide you with absolutely everything you need, cleanliness, quiet, excellent breakfast (with 100% homemade products), strictly traditional and a staff that you rarely meet. We were sorry to leave, but we promised ourselves that we will return in the following years.
ok place to stay although the room side pools are in the shade making them pointless. Reception staff are rude and abusive making the stay worthless and pointless.
Cleaning staff don’t read the do not disturb and charge into the room regardless.
Reception staff try to make the billing as confusing as possible to enable over charging for drinks and food. highly recommend avoiding this hotel.
The area of Elounda is a great area which we would return too.
We had a large bungalow, two bathrooms, separate living area, just a few metres from the pool, 50/60 metres from the beach. It was fantastic.
The location is great, walkable into Elounda and a short bus/taxi/drive into Agios Nikolaos.
Wonderful staff, very clean hotel with a beautiful beach area. Quiet location, nice restaurant and a lovely beach bar for a late night cocktail.
We knew it would be good, it was better than expected
The hotel was clean, the room was nice. It’s located right at the (private) beach and you don’t hear any noise from the streets around you. We didn’t hear our neighbors from our room. The breakfast (especially the fresh orange juice) is one thing to look forward to! The staff is kind and welcoming and they try their best to keep everyone safe in times like these. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel :)
We liked this quiet detached bungalow with its view of the bay, and a bus stop close by. We also liked that our host Irini had helped us to find a taxi from the airport direct to this property late at night. We liked the fact that we could walk safely into Elounda to catch the ferry to Spinalonga Island, and (on another day) directly onto Spinalonga peninsula. Great 3-night stay.
The staff are so accommodating and friendly especially the receptionists - made you feel really looked after and welcome. Rooms are really clean and the sea view is amazing. The hotel is in a lovely quiet location a short (but nice) walk from the main part of Elounda. The breakfast is also really good with lots to chose from. Would 100% recommendation this hotel to anyone!
This was a large and specious luxury villa. The owner did his best to make us feel welcome from the moment he greeted us to the moment we said goodbye. For most of our stay, he was never too far away (in the basement apartment) and always available to answer questions or provide anything we were missing.
The personnel was exceptional . Very helpful and always smiling. I hope they get paid well. They deserve it. The Bangalows have outstanding privacy and they are very quiet. The views of the sea and the island are beautiful. The hotel is also very clean and the rooms are being cleaned twice every day.
Breakfast was superior, great staff, fresh fruit and many hot items, great view from breakfast room, everything refilled promptly. Helpful courteous staff. Wonderful . Beds very comfortable and Village of Elounda a 6 minute drive for dinner. Clean and well kept up
.
We liked the location and fully enjoyed the weather. Crete is beautiful ! Food in Crete is amazing.
Nice and kind employees
Very nice food in Anthós and Blue Door
our favourite restaurant was FERRYMAN in ELUNDA and Maria in Plaka ( village close to the hotel )
beautiful clean updated pools beach. they upgraded us to a luxury villa. we had a sort of family reunion it was great both for the kids and adults. I would definitely go back. the setting is gorgeous. staff is great. facilities are top notch
We had a wonderful week! The views from the hotel were amazing, both pool and beach areas were very relaxing, the breakfast buffet was very tasty, we enjoyed walking to either Elounda or Plaka, room was spacious and clean.
the pool is even nicer than from the picture
cross the street and you’re already on the promande going to the Harbour
staff was just lovely and very kind
the whole hotel area feels like an oasis
Excellent boutique hotel right in the heart of Elounda yet still peaceful and relaxing. Superb pool heated to the right temperature. The staff couldn't be more welcoming. Highly recommended.
