HOTEL SØMA Ilulissat, hotel in Ilulissat

Set 15 minutes’ walk from the town center of Ilulissat, HOTEL SØMA Ilulissat has spectacular views of the world famous Ilulissat Icefjord.

The staff was SO nice, very responsive to messages, and easy to get ahold of if they weren't in the office. The downstairs all day tea/coffee thing they had going was great. Our favorite was probably the very varied breakfast that included fresh vegetables though! Amazing, would love to stay again.

The owner Bent, went above and beyond with his hospitality. Such a kind and gentle soul. The flat was very well located. Close to the visitor centre and to the markets, shops and everything. There’s everything you need to make simple meals in the kitchen. Bent is always there if you need to ask any questions or need any help. I miss Ilulissat and the beautiful people there already. Would love to go back again and recommend it to anyone who is not after luxury but to experience local life and the culture. Thank you again dear Bent for making our Greenland trip very memorable and welcoming 🙏

Ilulissat is a city providing all services for tourists what the arctic can offer. Tour guides and equipment for hiking on the ice, flying over it or visit it from the sea. Watching the amazing whales and the breathtaking experience of calving of the glaciers can be accessed from Ilulissat. would strongly recommend Cafe Inuit for their kind service and for the delicious food which offers not only greenlandic but asian treats.

Absolutely gorgeous with the Icebergs, Ice Fjord, glaciers, the seals and whales, calving of ice, kayaking, the wonderful people and the homely feel of Ilulissat. This has been one of the best places in the world that we have visited.

Ilulissat is the city where the gigantic ice sheet get melted and calved. Eqi glacier is another place located up north which may take about 7 hour boat ride. We did not go there as the price is quite high (around 2000dkk each). The glacier on the right side (south) of this city is already amazing for us (2-3 hours boat tour). Seeing calving Eqi glacier is an optional if you wish to sit longer in a tight seat for around 7 hours with hope that there will be a calving in front of you. What we did in 3 days were, iceburg and whale excursion by boat, walking on the yellow route (one day) , walking on the wood bride on sky blue dotted route for the next day already gave us a lot of experiences and scenic views

    Great little town.

Great little town. You can probably walk around the main part of the town in about in 20-30mins. Would recommend the B&Bs over hotels. Many great walks around the town (look out for the Yellow and Blue trails), which you can do on your own. They're not difficult and have some amazing sites of the the icefjord, icebergs and if lucky like me will see whales diving off the cost. Highly recommend walking down to the old church to watch amazing sunsets. The Cafe Inuit is great for food. Great choice, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and good prices, Most of the time you will not need cash. There was only a couple of occasions where I needed too.

    Loved this area!

Loved this area! You can get away from town quite easily and hike with fabulous views and vistas, or you can stroll around town and enjoy a latte at Cafe Inuit. The town offers numerous tours, options to meet locals and their sledge dogs and a great microbrewery!

Ilulissat is an epic place to visit especially if you want to see whales and icebergs. Literally, there are 20 whales blowing air at the same time while we are there. We had an amazing time and would come back again and again for the whales and northern light.

It's a cozy hotel about a 15 minute to the center of town (or the main street). The rooms have everything you need from free WiFi (which is hard to come by in Greenland!), comfortable beds, blackout curtains for summer, a spacious shower and a kettle with coffee/tea/hot chocolate. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is simple, but free. And they offer a free shuttle to/from the airport, and sometimes into town if you are heading that way when they are!

if you wanna like flexible and enjoy some local feel then staying at Ilulissat apartment is a good option! It is within 10min walk to town area where there’s 2-3 supermarkets for groceries (Brugseni & Pisifik). Cook a nice meal of using Greenlandic ingredients will probably save you some bucks too as compared to eating out at the restaurant. the host Ben provides good selection of food for breakfast. The apartment location is also short walk to the start of Blue walking trail.

Amazing staff...Instead of a 4 night stay, due to an Icelandair flight cancellation, I could only stay for 1 night. My flight was later than expected in arriving but I was met at the airport by a smiling staff member. Lovely room with neighbouring dog giving a welcome!! Super breakfast and very helpful staff giving me help to get an early walk into Ilulissat before returning to hotel for return trip to airport. Hospitality at its best! Thank you all so much.

Simple B&B. Nothing incredible. Simple but nice breakfast. It is located a short walk from the center of the town. It is in a heavily residential area which gives you a better feel for how locals live which is a nice alternative to the larger more centrally-located lodging options. The owner was kind to give me a drive (I paid him) to my next hotel which was across town and too far to walk with my luggage.

The suoerb location with the amazing panorama over the Icefjord, the extremely friendly staff, the delicious food in the restaurant (both breakfast and dinner!), the nice and spacy rooms, the free transfers to and from the airport, and their flexibility when checking out (we unexpectedly needed to leave a day earlier but hotel Management waived the fee for the last night), fabulous, three thumps up!!!

Great central location, very clean and comfortable. It was great to have a small kitchen in the room. Staff were really helpful, giving us free transfers to the airport and allowing us to leave our suitcases at the hotel whilst we ventured out of Ilulissat for several days. Breakfast was included in the room rate.

Where do I start? Amazing views of the ice fjords from your room to such caring hotel hosts who pick you up and drop you off at the airport - everything here was beyond what we had expected. The room was big and so neat! Early check-in and late check-out was also handled very congenially.

The view was spectacular! Icebergs and whales right outside the windows. The restaurant was lovely and the meals were fantastic, especially the evening meal. Reception staff were very helpful. Ask for a room in the main hotel with a sea view - it is well worth the cost!

I don't have any good things to stay about this hotel! And by the way, their shuttle is totally unreliable so stay here only if you want to walk 15 to 20 min each way to town on a busy and ugly road with no sidewalk.
