FAQs about hotels in Washington, D.C.

A World Icon

Featuring tons of national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booked through Booking.com.

    Amazing place to visit.

Amazing place to visit. Medium affordable food with more free things to do than anywhere I've ever been. Make sure to sign up early for Aerospace and African American museums. They are free, but you get an allotted time and pass and they where sold out days before I arrived. I went during spring break. Tons of beautiful architecture, not just the monuments. Plan to walk miles, though there are plenty of Uber options for when you're tired. Elephant and Castle was a surprising affordable option to eat with great food options and a nice bar while still being family friendly.

It is easy to get around to see all the landmarks, the Metro is perfect, quick, easy and cheap. You can use an e-scooter or e-bike available anywhere, lots of cafes, takeaway, restaurants and grocery shops. You can go on trips or do lots yourself, remember to book your free tickets to the smitsonian space and air well in advance - you need a ticket. Don’t forget to visit Arlington Cementry. You can catch the Metro from Ronald Reagan international airport to anywhere in the city - safe lots of money!

first time in DC and won't be the last - I loved this place!

first time in DC and won't be the last - I loved this place! The sights and history are a must for any visitor to the USA. Not only are most of the attractions free but the staff in these free facilities are also brilliant - I would like to single out the staff in the Capital Building across from the supreme court for their enthusiasm, courtesy and efficiency - they are a model of exceeding visitor expectations and they are a credit to the people who hired them! They are amazing ambassadors for their city. I might stay in Georgetown the next time I go to DC - great vibe and worthy of the hype.

Washington has so many attractions for visitors.

Washington has so many attractions for visitors. One of the highlights is Arlington Cemetery and particularly the 'Changing of the Guard' at the tomb of the unknown soldier. In addition to the White House, Capitol Hill, Lincoln Memorial, etc. there are numerous Smithsonian museums. Even though they are free to enter, some do require you to book the time of entry and these tend to book out quickly to reverse in advance of arriving in Washington. The city is very walkable but the if necessary the Metro is good and affordable to use. We purchased 3-day 'SmartTrip' cards at a cost of $30 and these covered both bus and metro trips. We were able to use the metro to access the airport (Dulles International) at the end of our stay (approx 50min journey time) For good food, good service and value for money try the 'Cheese-Cake Factory', 'Tatte' or 'Le Pan Quotidien'.

Excellent small unique restaurants but you do need to make reservations about a week in advance for most. Try Purple Patch in Mt Pleasant (Filipino food - delicious) Try Crimson Rose in Dupont (food from around the world, small plate style) The most popular Smithsonian museums were very crowded and require advance booking. Our visit to the Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, VA was well worth the 30-40minute drive. Much better than the DC air and space which was too crowded. Philips Museum in Dupont Circle had an excellent exhibit of Pierre Bonnard paintings

I honestly don’t understand the poor reviews. This place is far cheaper than what DC was offering for any hotel, and what I paid, I’d say it was worth it. My room was clean and spacious. Loved the Keurig and big TV. Also. the breakfast buffet was nice, too. I stayed away from the eggs and sausage. But they offered breads, fruits, cereal, HOT coffee, and oatmeal. i would def stay here again when visiting DC. It’s a bit of a drive to downtown DC, but better than spending $275+ for a night…Also, the agent checking everyone in was great!

I enjoyed my stay immensely. My room was clean, big, the bathroom and walk in shower were also big and I slept very well even though I usually travel with ear plugs anyway. The strong box was useful to keep valuables in and I was able to charge my phone right by the bed too. As a solo traveller, this hotel was a cheaper option to many other 4 star hotels in DC. Dupont Circle/Adams Morgan is a lovely neighbourhood. I give the hotel 8/10 and I was happy with my choice. The staff were all kind, helpful and polite. Thanks.

This is a beautiful hotel in a very good part of DC, full of interesting houses and buildings, shops, restaurants, and even a world-class art gallery in walking distance. The building is old, but completely to date inside. Our compact but nicely done corner room had windows on two sides, and we could see over the building next door. The hotel restaurant was excellent, the minibar well stocked, and the bathroom had real tile instead of modern cheap materials.

This is my new favorite DC hotel. Its commitment to social justice and to being LGBTQ friendly feels real not like a marketing gimmick. It’s eclectic and comfortable but doesn’t feel cheap or shoddy. The staff are fantastic and seem genuinely happy to help. The location is way and safe and the rates are always reasonable. It’s not fancy but full functional for a work trip with decent work spaces in the larger study rooms
