I think Cortona lacks out door eating and calling cafes ....mind you I did visit in January but other cities have outdoor heaters so that visitors or even locals can enjoy sitting out on clear sunny but cold days. Not much option if any if you are wanting to eat between 3 and 8pm ... but finding most places in Italy in the small historical towns are the same. So make sure you either have a late breakfast or stop in time to get some lunch in! :)))

We were on a pilgrimage to historical Catholic sites. Santa Margherita and St Francesco monastery are outstanding experiences with interesting backstories. Excellent views of the Tuscany landscape from Santa Margherita.

It is a very beautiful medieval city close at the border of Tuscany and Umbria. It is definitely not an easy walk city as there are not so many flat streets. But it is worth it!
From Piazza Garibaldi, you could have a very nice view to Tuscany.
You find few parking lots around the city but from there you need to walk few stairs to actually get in to the city.
The italian ice cream, of course, is unbeatable. I can also recommend Cortona Bistrot. I think I have eaten there one of the best tiramisu.
The city is worth for couple of days' visit but the surroundings are also very nice (e.g. Lake Trasimeno).

The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona.
The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona. Cortona is very small, I came in once during a three day stay. Considering that it was 50 euro to drive in to town I would have only came back in for another dinner if I was with a group. Be ready to walk uphill! I walked all the way to the top and then made my way down to eat. Sadly I can’t remember the name of the restaurant I went to but it was tiny with a family feel and the food was incredible

Beautiful, romantic, old place!
Beautiful, romantic, old place! An ideal experience - away from the crowds and chaos of top destinations like Florence, but at the same time providing every element of romantic and beautiful Tuscany and ancient Italy in general!
It is about 2.5 kilometres away from the Cortona itself, however, extremely close to Camucia train station if you arrive by train. We used to take a bus up to the hill to Cortona and then get back to hotel by foot which was really nice walk during the nights. At our triple room we had a spacious balcony, overlooking the nature of Tuscany - a really nice touch. The room and bathroom - nice and clean. In general, it is twice cheaper than the cheapest hotel in Cortona - if you are not afraid for a walk, it is a really nice deal.
Wonderful stay at this beautiful cottage. Paola and her lovely family were so welcoming and generous. The cottage and grounds were beautifully maintained and are within walking distance to Cortona.
The cottage is ideally located for visiting Florence, Arrezo and Assisi amongst many other places. A warm and welcoming cottage which was a pleasure to return home to after our long days touring Tuscany and Umbria.
We highly recommend this property and wish Paola and her lovely family all the best for the future.
We have had the pleasure of staying at some of the world's best hotels. At Villa di Piazzano everything exceeded our (high) expectations. Not least the staff - everyone (!) was so professional and service-minded.
And the food was amazing. In fact extraordinary. And while the rooms can be said to be a bit on the pricy side, everything else was indeed reasonably priced.
All in all a fantastic stay which we can wholeheartedly recommend. Not least at this time of the year (end of April).
Terre dei Cavalieri is a totally renovated farmhouse, with ample rooms, bathrooms, beautiful swimming pool area, very good restaurant.
Excellent location to visit Cortona and adjacent areas in Tuscany and Umbria.
Everything clean and organized.
Restaurant was fully booked on Saturday night, local people like the place and the food.
The hotel is an old building with an amazing courtyard. Very beautifully decorated and well located near Cortona. Staff were amazing and went beyond their duty to accommodate guests. Breakfast was a feast with the best quality local products and large range of choices from cheese, ham, eggs, cakes, fresh juices, cereales, breads!
Family run property, provided the basic amenities we were seeking without the fuss. No breakfast offered, but daily bread, pastries, and pizza delivery was available from a local bakery. The location worked well for us, we were able to minimize drive time to about an hour to Siena, Montepulciano, Montalcino, and Cortona.
The villa is beautiful and comfortable and the property was lovely with the olive trees, views, etc. Location is ideal, just a few minute's drive from Cortona and convenient to many other places in Tuscany and Umbria. The host was helpful in recommending places and answering our questions.
Borgo Il Melone is a charming hotel. We were kindly received, the rooms are spacious and clean, the swimming pool is lovely and the breakfast extensive and delicious! The cozy town of Cortona is a 10-minute drive away and is nice to visit, even if you only stay 1 night like us.
I've stayed in this hotel a couple times now. The double rooms are much more spacious than the singles. Great location with lovely staff. The breakfast is plentiful and overlooks the wonderful valley. Great place to stay to explore all of Cortona.
Location in the middle of the old town Cortona, good breakfast, clean room very professional and friendly staff. Hotel San Michele is located in a beautiful Palazzo with old style furniture excellent place, full of history.
Jeroen made you feel welcome from the moment we got there till we left. After taking a long flight into Italy, having breakfast in bed made it nicer in not having to rush down to eat. Very clean with a comfortable bed!
Jonathan and Osvaldo are great hosts. It’s a classic B&B with a wonderfully proudly served breakfast in a very relaxed and convenient setting. And of course Cortona is beautiful. Thank you for the warm welcome!
This was by far the worst of the 5 agriturismos we stayed at in our 3 week trip around Tuscany. Some aspects were good - large room, very quiet, beautiful linen. The location was perfect for Cortona.
Great location in the countryside just outside of Cortona. Easy to get to all of the Tuscany region. The staff and food were amazing. Rooms were comfortable and clean! Very accommodating!
We really enjoyed our stay! Our room was huge and very comfortable. Breakfast buffet was wonderful. Location close to Cortona. We would definitely stay again when in the area!
Wonderful in every way! Close proximity to the center of Cortona which is one of our favorite towns to visit in Italy…definitely one of the best places to stay!
