Pienza is small but has an excellent selection for dining.
Pienza is small but has an excellent selection for dining. Sight seeing in town is somewhat limited but affords terrific views over Val d'Orcia. If you like Pecorino cheese, you have to visit the shops in Pienza. Quick bite, try Pizzeria Pummaro near gate into old center. For charm and quality meal try Pane Vino & Zucchero. For all round the Trattoria la Buca Delle Fate is good. For a good hike outside of town, don't stop at the spot where they shot the Gladiator scene, keep going.

Pienza has one main street which means it can feel crowded when a relatively small number of people visit. There is limited free parking which is also used by residents.
There are a variety of small shops which mostly sell typical regional products. There is an abundance of Pecorino and hams. It is possible to buy a range of different quality of jewelry. There are also a few clothes shops.
There is a beautiful panoramic walk on the entrance from the North.
The town is blessed with a variety of restaurants and bars which are mostly tradition Tuscan food. There are also at least two ice cream shops.
The market takes place on Friday. In October there are a number of events such as the chocolate festival which means it gets very crowded on the weekend. There are limited public services such as clean bathrooms.
I limited the amount of time that I visited the town during my week long stay mainly due to access to parking. You have to pay 24/7 which is a problem for evening meal when travelling alone in the dark at a parking meter.

We utilised Pienza as a base from which to explore various towns within the Val D'Orcia, a world heritage area. We could have stayed longer to visit more towns and explore mountain biking trails. Pienza in itself is clean, beautifully restored, has chic dining spots and it was a privilege to have visited.

Pienza is now one of our favourite destinations in Tuscany.
Pienza is now one of our favourite destinations in Tuscany. We have visited San Gimignano, Siena, Monteriggioni. Montepulcino whilst travelling by car and have found Pienza to be so pretty and enjoyable to be in. Parking was easy to navigate and the laneways of Pienza were quiet and so charming. The walkway/lookout side of the town provided vistas that you would hope for. Pienza is also quite close to those classic Tuscan scenes/photos that you may have seen previously.

I loved absolutely everything about this place.
I loved absolutely everything about this place. From location, to comfort, to the friendliest host (Tommaso) ever. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the Tuscan country side. It is close to Pienza and many other attractions and is just a gem of a place.
The location was outstanding with excellent Tuscany landscapes and a great view of Pienza. Very peaceful, this place is ideal to recharge your battery by spending the day at the pool and visit numerous little towns around Pienza including great wine cellars. The owner lady was so warm welcoming and helpful to give information and recommendations while the staff was very friendly and helping. Very nice breakfast with a daily homemade bread and cake. We will definitely go back!
Three of us stayed in this lovely house in Pienza for 3 weeks as a central location from which to visit other hill towns in Tuscany. I can't imagine a better choice. Three restaurants outside our door and a coffee bar steps away on the main square made it all the better. Our hostess was absolutely wonderful and helpful. The house was immaculately clean, very well-furnished and comfortable for our 3 week stay.
This beautiful cozy agriturismo gave us the perfect countryside Tuscan ending to our busy 3 week tour of Italy. Our rooms were nicely decorated, the outside had many beautiful flower pots & fruit trees surrounded by olive trees. We were happy to slow down & enjoy the pool & other guests who were there. Our breakfast basket delivered to our patio each morning was a nice touch. We loved the quite countryside.
Great location, few minutes walking from Pienza old town and all restaurants there.
Hotel has the best possible view, also from the tarrace where tasty breakfast is served - over the Tuscan valley.
Staff is very friendly, positive and helpful, even organized us great trip to nice small winery, with walk though spectacular valleys and preordered taxi back.
We had the two bedroom apartment and it was spacious, well designed and beautiful decorated. The location, just outside Pienza, was perfect. Breakfast each morning was plentiful and delicious. Parking and check in were easy. They provided robes, towels and a wonderful bath basket filled with fantastic soaps, body lotion and more. We loved out stay here.
- picturesque view from terrace (city panorama),
- large room with very functional bathroom),
- air conditioner and kettle,
- coffee machine available only for one euro in hall,
- localisation - via main street od Pienza,
- wi-fi on the highest level of speed, working very good,
- bath cosmetics sets,
- the hotel is located in a historical building.
Stunning views in a remote area of Pienza. Washer onsite. There wasn’t really a place clothes to hang clothes to dry, but we made it work. We visited in November, so the pool was closed (expected). It looked like a great little pool though. Easy parking for rental car. Amazing location for a local farm/cooking class 2km away!
The hotel staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful. Very close to the charming old city. Very close to the supermarket. Maybe 100 meters distant. We really loved the hotel and Pienza! Nicola, his mother and restaurant staff were so helpful and even tolerated my attempts to speak Italian!
Great location. The back of property is overlooking the valley with fantastic scenery. This is also the same place for breakfast and dinner. The pool is fantastic. The room was very clean. The beds comfortable and the size of room was the biggest we had in Italy ever. Great place.
Loved this place, nice agriturismo in the Tuscany countryside, just minutes away from Pienza by car, close to some of the best views in Tuscany. The breakfast basket every morning was such a nice touch. Great pool and quiet, beautiful property. Great local wine for sale as well.
The setting of this farmhouse looks like a movie, it is absolutely breathtaking! The room was just as you would envision a Tuscan farmhouse. We had amazing breakfast served every morning and we were treated like family during our stay. Definitely the highlight of our Italy trip.
We stayed there for 2 nights, the location is great if you want to visit both Montalcino and Montepulciano, cause it's in between. The staff members are very nice, the breakfast is varied, the only place we stayed in in Italy that served eggs which was nice. Very clean.
Very nice hotel with comfy rooms and a nice patio with hot tub. Breakfast choices were great. Staff was wonderful and helpful with everything. Would highly recommend staying at this hotel . Pienza and are were wonderful
Perfectly positioned between San Quirico and Pienza, this is a great place to discover the region. Large room, pool with an amazing view on Pienza and Toscana hills, and very welcoming host who speaks good French.
The view over the valley from the room, terasse and pool is just amazing and makes you fall in love with Tuscany. The staff is super friendly and engaged and with the little courtyard is a paradise in busy Pienza.
The hotel is just perfect, I wish I could stay more. Very modern but still with some traditional tuscany details. The location is the best. I loved the afternoon prosecco, cheese and olives.
