Beautiful town!
Beautiful town! Lovely views, but tough to find parking in the town. Make reservations for dinner as the restaurants fill up fast! People kayaking and canoeing down the little water falls we’re having a lot of fun! We enjoyed feeding the ducks and geese from the edges of the lower walls.

Nice atmosphere, medieval buildings and church and surrounded by some very beautiful waters. Throughout town and surroundings there are displays of a painting of impressionist painter Alfred Sisley who lived (and died) here: a painting looking out to location it was painted. Don't forget to do the 6 km walk to Saint-Mammès along the canal. Try the apricot cake from the small bakery along the river. And also note that Crêperie La Poterne serves French pancake dishes from a stunning location at the water and village gate - they can serve the dishes vegetarian and gluten free.

We liked the green spaces along the river banks very much, a great place to watch children in the water along with the geese ducks and swans. The tourist information office was very helpful The painter Alfred Sisley lived and died there and there is a museum and town trail dedicated to him. Also a mueum dedicated to a sweet associated with the town, a type of barley sugar. Best time to visit in July and August is over the weekend as the museums are open and every Saturday night in these two months there is a concert in the town.

The layout and architecture were a blend of modern and old. The wooden beams being held together without nails was interesting to see. There are several bakeries, restaurants, an cafes close by. The town itself was lovely and worth time spent wandering around. We only stayed one night before heading out to CD airport. I would have like to stay longer.
