What were your favourite places there? The Sommerrodelbahn, The Cable Car, The Postalm Panoramastrasse and the drive through Fischbach. What we highly recommend is a nice walk through the town and surrounding places itself!! This is a very very pretty place. Where did you eat? We cooked ourselves. However, we bought groceries at the Spar market in the town. Is it easy to get around Abtenau? Yes. The town is very accessible. We, however, did not use the public transport. The small city in the middle of the mountains. The small ski resort, but the bigger one is only 10 km away. Good cross country ski´s tracks. Excellent trips and bike trips in summer are possible. A lot of round trips tracks are signed around the place. It is a peaceful friendly place,

Abtenau is a wonderful quiet little summer resort town that is quite central to many areas and activities in Salzburgerland, e.g. Salzburg is 45min away by car, Dachstein, Hallstatt and Grossglockner Alpine road all in easy reach. Plenty of hikes in summertime and though we didn’t travel in winter, there are ski slopes on your doorstep for beginner/intermediate level, with advanced level ski runs a short drive away. You do need a car to get around from here, but it is worth it.

All you can expect in a mountain village.
All you can expect in a mountain village. A couple of places to eat, in the main square pizza is not bad and traditional food is excellent at the Post Hotel. We were there during very hot June, so we visited the local pool and it was an amazing surprise. Kids loved it. the place is 30 min drive from Salzburg so you can come and go at any time. It was central to many places to visit by car. The village had everything you need and a lovely village square. The scenery is wonderful and the Salzkammergut card was excellent value for visiting the many cable cars and tourist sites and community facilities. very much tuned to the ski season. in summer lots closed, menus shortened etc good SPAR supermarket in village. karkogelbahn gets swamped by daytrippers to use rodelbahn, many of whom are so scared that they ruin the costly experience for others by going sooooo slowly down it.

Very relaxing check-in, beautiful spacious room with a spectacular view, the spa and pool area was enormous and very quiet, so many ameneties I didn't even try them all. Free tea, water and fruit at all times of the day. Room service was fast, breakfast anything you could want or need and even had a 'late breakfast' until 2pm for grabbing snacks. We appreciated the little personal "messages" in the room - like the wise thoughts on the small pillows or the book on the bedside table. It is also a nice gesture to place a bottle of water in the room for the arriving guests. In addition, we found ourselves in a super clean room with enough space for 2 people, superb bathroom and a comfortable bed. The personnel was friendly, helpful.

The welcome cake in the room and a farewell jar of homemade jam will make us remember this hotel with a wonderful feeling. It is a wonderful "Old world Austria" feeling that we enjoyed every minute!

The appartment has 3 separate rooms with a sofa bed in the living room, so enogh space for big family / group. The owners are very kind and open to solve any problem. Abtenau and its surrounding is not highly visited place but that is a plus if you want to enjoy hiking/walking and don't want to meet many people. Highly recommended to anybody :)
