It is perfect place for two days visit from Lisbon.
It is perfect place for two days visit from Lisbon. First day we managed to visit Quinta da Regaleira, next day - Pena and Cabo de Roca, and at the first half of the next day - Monserrate Palace. It was worth to visit everything. One bad thing is the local transport company Scotturb. Overpriced tickets with almost no options except 24h ticket. If you don't need the day ticket, I think using a taxi is better.

Sintra is a destination that you must visit.
Sintra is a destination that you must visit. Wear comfortable shoes and prepare for a walk on steep streets. You must visit the castle, but again, you must walk through very steep streets. But if you are prepared for that, you will enjoy it a lot.

So much to see and the pastries are excellent!
So much to see and the pastries are excellent! We went to the Pena Palace, The Moorish Castle and enjoyed shopping and delicious food. Our favorite spot was the Saudade Cafe. There are several good restaurants, the city is easy to get around and see. We did not hike up or down to the palaces/castles - took bus/tuk-tuk. Wear shoes you can walk on cobblestone. A lot of the souvenir shops are similar, and you have to look for items crafted in Portugal. No way I would drive in this city - we used Bolt to travel places in and around - to Cabo do Roca, Cascais, and Queluz. It was a great trip and worth staying there versus a day trip from Lisbon. Weekends are crowded.

Please, please, please do not visit this city without knowing how FAR everything is to get to and how hilly, mountainous and steep the terrain is!!! Beyond that, the Moorish Castle and the Pena Palace are only accessible in restricted zone streets open to tourist buses and tours, taxis and tuk-tuks ONLY. Do not assume that you will be able to drive there. If you park in the Historic City Center you will be walking UP HILL for 2-3 hours just to get to Pena and Moorish. That being said:
This city is ENCHANTING! There is history, natural beauty and gorgeous architecture everywhere. I would advise to take a minimum of 2 days to see the big 5 and buy your tickets in advance! Also, if you do purchase tickets in advance, make sure that you time your day out appropriately. For Pena Palace try and get a 9:30 entrance and then do a picnic lunch and in the afternoon visit Moorish Castle, entering by 2:30 p.m. latest.
Pena Palace and Park (Sintra Parks website)
Moorish Castle (Sintra Parks website)
Monserrate Palace (Sintra Parks website)
Sintra National Palace (Sintra Parks website)
Quinta de Regaleira (own website)
In the evening the downtown historic area has amazing options for dinner along with a lovely art walk and other historic landmarks.
Personally, I would not advise to visit in the Summer, you may end up wasting quite a bit of time in the crowds (unless you've planned meticulously and purchased all tickets in advance.) Also, do not utilize your car GPS and be wary of what location you put into Google Maps.
Pro tip? Leave the rental car at your hotel or parked and splurge for the personal driver, cab, or tuk-tuk to each location.

Sintra town is not that great, super difficult to walk or drive round. The Tuk tuk's are wonderful & the best way to get around.
Super, super touristy.
The restaurants in the town centre are what you might expect, but get away from that & there are some gems.
We visited Pena Palace, this is a magical fairy tale palace, but even if you take a Tuk Tuk up & then the bus, it's still a good climb. Expect, lots of people, we went in Feb. & it was still super, super busy
First mention goes to the staff. They could not have been friendlier or more helpful with any request we made of them while we there. The hotel is a delightful size and ideally situated for the station to Lisbon or walking into old Sintra if the mood takes you (about a 15-20 minute walk). Able to order an ample breakfast (with a fantastic view across Old Sintra and up to the Moorish Castle) and enjoyed the pool facilities which were in keeping with the size of hotel. Would easily choose to stay here again
Wow, the apartment is exceptionally lovely, perhaps the best we’ve experienced in Portugal. Large comfortable bed. Very quiet, well equipped kitchen, very clean and roomy. We really were happily surprised. A staff member was also there to meet us, and gave us good ideas on what and how to see sights around Sintra. Location is perfect, so close to all attractions, yet on a quiet street behind the main square. If you come to Sintra, you won’t find better accommodations.
Room was airy, well- ventilated, and one could open the balcony door for fresh air. Lovely, quiet, view. Bed and bathroom linen were very good. Furniture met all requirements- closet space, room for suitcases, spacious beside tables, mirrors, extra chair etc. Breakfast was excellent quality and the best we had among 4 hotels we stayed at in Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto and Sintra. Staff were very helpful, courteous, friendly, professional and knowledgeable.
Wow! Beautiful property and welcoming hospitality to make the perfect stay. Ricardo goes above and beyond to make you feel at home and taken care of. The accommodations are both special and comfortable in addition to being close to Sintra. Great breakfast and treats! If you have the chance to stay here, take it. It was a highlight of our Portugal trip. I hope I get to return someday.
This place is wall to wall marble and it shows amazing craftsmanship.... You gotta stay here and see the architecture! Breakfast was done the best out of all the places we stayed in Portugal. You felt like it was a private event and its well worth the price. As a Canadian we easily said "Sintra was the Banff of Portugal" It did NOT disappoint. Highly recommend staying here!
it’s so unique & such a beautiful location. The staff is wonderful. So welcoming. We especially liked Diego who gave us tons of history & information about the hotel! He was great. Also Beatrice lovely. Service excellent & very specific to us individually. We will definitely come back! Very easy to access from Lisbon. our first trip to Portugal & we loved it!!
What a magical place in which to spend our last few nights in Portugal. You will feel transported to another place in time. The staff, the delicious breakfast, the on-site bar and dinner opportunities (order an hour ahead!) made it a great experience. Loved the “medieval pub” next door as well. It’s an easy 10 minute walk to the center of town.
Everything. Very boutique, all new, super comfortable night sleep, friendly staff, one or two minute walk from train station, loved the option to have access to sister palace boutique hotel down the street where we heard good Fado music with full wine and cheese spread looking out at the castle (all gratis), so beautiful. Excellent breakfast!
This was a lovely boutique hotel in a great location in Sintra, the room was spacious, well furnished and it had a great view of the valley of the fox. The staff were very helpful and friendly and gave some great recommendations. This place had a charm to it, very unique. It was a really enjoyable two night stay!
Hosts, cleanliness, location and apartment (4 bdrms!!) all exceeded our expectations. One of the best rentals of our Spain and Portugal trip for sure!
I read past comments before booking and was amazed to see that they had fulfilled most all suggestions!
Appreciated the luggage storage as well. 🙂 Lovely place!
The best stay I had in Portugal. The lady and her husband who ran this hotel are THE BEST people. And I can enjoy the whole view and Pena Palace from my patio. This place is the ideal vacation home, idyllic and picturesque. I wish I could stay longer.
I'll definitely come back for next vacation.
The Chalet overall was wonderful and my family rated Sintra as their favorite destination in Portugal. We loved the breakfast provided with the additional fee. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful in making the most of our short trip.
The thing I liked the most was the beauty of the place. My bedroom was very nice and clean. The place was actually super close to the center of the village. The staff at the hotel was the best though, the kindest people in Portugal!
The property is a historic home with a lot of charm and character. It’s very quiet and close to the best part of Old Sintra. The hostess was amazing and went above and beyond to make our stay in Portugal a great one.
Honestly one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. It's just perfect - the staff, the view, the room and the breakfast. The finishes and décor are luxurious. I wouldn't stay anywhere else when returning to Sintra.
An excellent hotel. Great attention to detail, staff are extremely attentive and charming. Food was some of the best food we ate on our two week holiday across Portugal. Highly recommend.
amazing stay, fantastic location, beautiful boutique hotel, comfy and elegant common area, excellent breakfast and super nice staff! the ocean view is breathtaking!!! we will come back!
