I did a one day trip, I went there just because of the naturals onsen, and it was the best decision, I arrived about 10:00 at leave at the same time of the next day. Honestly I don't think is a trip for more than 3 days. Gero is a beautiful city, it has a few museums that can be seen in one period of the day. As the city is small, it doesn't need car or bus to go around if no one has fiscal disabilities. This was my second time at Japan, and I regret not going to Gero the first time as well.

Out of all the places we ate in, I think we enjoyed eating in Unasho the most. They serve unagi, which is a specialty of Nagoya, their neighboring prefecture. There are some negative reviews about unasho, about how it's not value for money, but I don't think so. On our return trip, we passed through Nagoya station and ate in one of the famous unagi places in Nagoya called Maruya Honten. We preferred the unagi from Unasho, it was cleaner and prepared better because you felt the fishbones less in your mouth when you chewed. The hot pudding from Yuamiya was TO DIE FOR. We came back twice to the shop during our trip so that we could eat it again and again.

If you love pudding, onsen or frogs, Gero is definitely the place to stay! The hot Hida milk pudding is absolutely delicious. There is a cute little frog shrine and lots of frog related souvenirs, cookies and street decor. There are public foot baths, great hot sprins and enough places to get a decent snack. I can highly recommend La Vita e Bella. This is an italian place in Gero. The staff were absolutely adorable. They spoke English really well and they actually had a proper English menu.

Gero is located in the Center of the Gifu Region. Small and very beautiful place, with unforgettable landscapes. The hot springs are scattered throughout the city and you can use them all the time. It is possible to walk the entire city on foot. Plenty of restaurants and shopping options.

I had an amazing time staying here, gero Onsen was just a short train ride away and the owners picked me up and dropped me off at the station every time I got a train! The house itself was lovely aswell old Japanese style futon, nice wooden Japanese decor and a river running just one step from your private door to the garden! the location is abit remote but with trains you can get to Takayama and gero very easily and the train ride is scenic as hell. I had a great time staying here :) .

Traditional ryokan that is very welcoming. Highly recommended to book your stay with meals. We love the dinner and breakfast served to us in the restaurant. They have indoor and outdoor onsen which is well maintained. There are also free coffee and cold water for you to drink at the lobby area. There is also a small souvenir stall for you to shop. Upon check out, we managed to get the Gero Onsen Gassho Village tickets from the reception at a discounted price.

-great hospitality, able to communicate in Eng or using gg translate. When we were leaving, they even came outside to say goodbye ,also standing and waving until our car gone. - This hotel has to carry suitcase up one floor, but they helped to carry all the way in and out. - Big private dinner and BF room for each family. -River view from the room. -Coin laundry nearby outside the hotel. -Quiet area at night.

We expected to stay in an Japanese Style "Ryokan" and were absolutely blown away with the experience. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, they cooked great food and some locals were having a drink in the evening where the mood was fantastic. We really enjoyed our stay there and have already decided, if we will be able to come to Japan again, we will visit this nice place again.

The in-room onsen was fabulous. The windows can fully open with an enjoyable view. A pleasant surprise that there are fireworks shows along the river on Saturdays and our room allowed us a view of the show. The dinner was served in our room and was fancy and delicious! The staff were pleasant and helpful and we managed to communicate adequately via google translate.

The staff are amazing, the outdoor hot spring is truly beautiful at night, and the included meals are incredible. Because it is smaller than many of the resort hotels, you feel like you are getting the full Ryokan experience. The staff knew who we were our entire stay.
