Location is perfection. Right in the middle of the old part of the city and a very short walk to the cathedral. The Family room in the attic was great, we opened the window and listened to the birds, there was a door between the master bedroom and the kids room which is always nice. Breakfast was lovely.

I was truly surprised how good this place was considering the price. The room is very big and comfortable, and breakfast is varied and tasty. The city center is walkable from the hotel, around 15-20 minutes.

Canterbury’s religious and historic significance has inspired literary greatness. Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ were based on pilgrimages to the bygone shrine of Thomas A Becket, who was murdered here. The Marlowe Theatre is named after the 16th-century playwright born here, and the Canterbury Museum has an exhibit on Rupert Bear, whose author lived in this River Stour city.
River cruises and punting provide fantastic views of the striking weavers’ houses right on the water, and of Westgate - the UK’s largest city gate. Other sections of the city walls remain, and there are also ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, named after the 6th-century saint who brought Christianity to England. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury, but the modern-day seat is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral, dating to the 12th century.
From the same period are the Norman castle ruins, occupying the site of a wooden fort constructed by William the Conqueror. The mound they sit on in Dane John Gardens is thought to be a Roman cemetery, and an original mosaic is visible in the Roman Museum.
In the Buttermarket half-timbered houses and historic inns are interspersed with shops, and big name brands line the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The Canterbury accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap hostels and city centre B&Bs.

We loved exploring the Kent area whilst based in Canterbury.
We loved exploring the Kent area whilst based in Canterbury. We did 3 x Day trips - to Whitstable, Margate and Ramsgate. Then the White Cliffs of Dover and on our final day did a day trip to Dover Castle.

Beautiful with loads of independent shops.
Beautiful with loads of independent shops. Really beautiful gems around the cathedral. Difficult to find decent parking in town. Public car parks not cheap and can’t vouch for their safety. Most city centre hotels don’t have their own car parks…which is a big problem.

Charming historic and very walkable.
Charming historic and very walkable. The cathedral is a must to visit. We also did a ghost walk which was hugely entertaining. The town has an eclectic mix of eateries , big name stores peppered with interesting independents.

I know Canterbury well as parents have lived in many locations surrounding the area including Reculver, Herne Bay, Seasalter, Whitstable. Not easy to get around from area to close area outside Canterbury using taxis. No taxis from various train stations to various surrounding areas. When travelling with friend in wheel chair it was a nightmare. Could not get any taxis. Luckily we were able to rely on relatively good bus services using disabled free bus passes.

The cathedral was beautiful !
The cathedral was beautiful ! The neighborhood has a lot of walkable streets wear tennis shoes though uneven pavements , very unsafe feeling environment where cycles park. There is limited parking there so you have to park blocks away and pay a premium.

We only stayed one night and saw everything we wanted to...
We only stayed one night and saw everything we wanted to around the city; had we come by car we would have gone further afield and I am sure there were buses but this was deliberately a one night city break and we covered everything by walking.
Local independent shops were good, Corkk for English wines and good coffee shop opposite Burgate Coffee Shop with fantastic cakes. The Parrot and The Dolphin served good food and drinks.
The location could hardly be better for visiting Canterbury. It is only a ten-minute walk to the city centre. Another big positive is that there is ample parking for anyone arriving by car. The building is a beautiful 14th century timber-frame construction, that is now a restaurant on the ground floor with hotel accommodation above, entered by a separate door so that guests don't have to walk through the dining area to get to bedrooms. There is no breakfast service, but there are plenty of cafes nearby.
Everything about our stay was amazing. The Falstaff is perfectly located in Canterbury, it's a 3-min walk from the city centre and just a stone's throw away from a number of amazing pubs and restaurants. The staff are really friendly, they upgraded us for free and the overall atmosphere was great.
The bar and the restaurant in the hotel itself are totally worth checking out. Fantastic cocktails and tasty pizza.
We had an amazing stay
Breakfast and dinner was great, plenty of choices, well presented and very tasty.
Room was comfortable and clean and had all that we needed.
Nice grounds and in a quiet location, although close enough to Canterbury for a quick drive.
The staff were very friendly and extremely accommodating - nothing was an issue for them.
Would recommend this to others. If we go again, I would ask to stay in the newer part.
Did enjoy our stay there.
"It was a great week in Canterbury thanks to this wonderful flat. It is very well located (close to public transport and the city centre) and quiet. It is very nicely furnished and well equipped modernly. Highly recommended for those who want to visit Canterbury and its surroundings and enjoy peace and quiet. The owner is very friendly and at your service for any questions. It was really excellent, best appartment via booking com ever!"
Very good location just a short walk from Canterbury city centre. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we had a problem with the shower flooding our bathroom on the first day but it was jumped on immediately and sorted out straight away. I left my phone charger behind and the hotel very kindly posted it to me. Big thanks :)
The room we had was large, and very comfortable. The property was on 15 minutes from the town centre and the Cathedral. Great place for exploring the area. The continental breakfast was good. We found the staff helpful and very friendly. When we have the opportunity to return to Canterbury, we will use the Castle House Hotel again.
Plenty of free parking, nice room, very helpful pleasant staff. A 20 minute walk to the City Centre, or there's regular buses from around the corner. Canterbury itself is a fantastic place, and well worth a visit. Would definitely stay at the same Hotel again, and plan to in the future.
room was massive. Wasn't too sure about staying in a pub but the room upstairs was clean and comfortable. felt more like a proper hotel. the toilet was huge. really good location (right on top of an affordable pub that opens until late) and right in the city centre.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was very neat, clean and tidy and the facilities were excellent. The hotel is very quite and in an excellent location. The breakfast area was very clean and spacious and the breakfast that was served was ample.
A well presented hotel where many of the original features have been retained.
Friendly and helpful staff.
On site parking in mature gardens.
A tasty breakfast that was cooked for me individually.
A10/15 minute walk into Canterbury city centre
Location great, hotel stylish and welcoming - room comfortable, clean and fully equipped- dining facilities and lounge/bar area nicely designed, warm & welcoming and staff in all areas very welcoming, smart, polite and professional
The hotel is very conveniently situated close to the city centre. Staff were very welcoming and on site security was excellent. My room was comfortable and well furnished. Breakfast was good quality with a wide choice on the menu.
Perfect location. Excellent hotel, staff, service, facilities, room and breakfast. Would definitely stay again on a visit to Canterbury with only approx 15min walk to city centre. Throughly recommend.
Really like the room space and food was great.
The shower body wash smelt great, and I like the location of the hotel as its right in the city centre walking distance to canterbury cathedral
The local of the hotel is excellent, in the city centre but a quiet area. It is a new hotel and everything is very fresh and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful without exception.
Great location in centre of Canterbury. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast buffet. Hotel is relatively recently built - rooms were clean and comfortable
