Hexham is a beautiful place, very picturesque. I was visiting for a friend's wedding and didn't have a lot of opportunity to explore but I'd definitely like to visit again in the future. There was a variety of shops and the town itself is very peaceful. I visited the town's Wetherspoons and found it to be very welcoming with friendly people. I would definitely recommend a visit!

What a lovely town! Reminded me of Harrogate.

Lots of lovely independent shops, particularly a book shop which was an absolute delight. Couldn’t find a yarn shop though. Hexham Abbey is a beautiful building and part of an active parish with good choirs and an excellent organ. Great place to explore Hadrian’s Wall, the reason we were there.

Hexham is a lovely town with friendly people and great local shops and pubs. We only had one evening there and had to leave early Sunday morning before we had a chance to explore the lovely shops. We did see the Abbey and there was a brilliant exhibition there with great interactive activities for children.
We ate at the Heart of Northumberland pub and the food and service was fantastic. We stayed at the Beaumont and had breakfast there, which was really delicious.
Hexham is also great for access to Hadrian’s wall. We definitely could have stayed longer.

Historic place, down to earth folk, still good value for money, just about holding the gentrification, avocado smashed or otherwise, at bay. See it before the cost of a coffee exceeds a pack of smokes.

an excellent location for visiting Hadrians Wall, approx 3 miles from the property in which we stayed, although on this occasion the weather was against us! A visit to the Abbey is a must, seeped in history, eating at Wetherspoons in the market square, good prices & varied menu, catering for all tastes. Easy to negotiate the town on foot

I get the impression Hexham is a bit of a secret.
I get the impression Hexham is a bit of a secret. It's like York without all the fuss. A very old centre with an abbey and gaol. (Check times though because events are on at the abbey and you cannot get in as a visitor.) The Gaol has limited opening too. Really brilliant base for Hadrian's wall.
Excellent hotel. The room was spacious, quiet, comfortable and clean. The staff were all friendly and really helpful. We did a lovely walk by the river which was recommended by one of them. Very dog friendly. They supplied a towel, throw and treats for our dog and he even had a special breakfast with us. Great bar, where we ate both days of our stay. Food was delicious and breakfast was really good too. Very good location. Parking available very close to the hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel
The hotel was easy to find and we enjoyed both our dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant. My Mom loved her room found the bed very comfortable. The restaurant, common areas, and room were all clean and in good repair and inviting. We were worried there might be a lot of noise since the hotel was on a main street but that wasn't a problem at all. The price of the room and the prices in the restaurant were very reasonable. The staff was very friendly and professional.
Vine Cottage was a lovely place to stay: spotlessly clean; well-appointed, from new appliances to essential items and little extras such as games and books; prettily furnished; and in a central location for exploring Hexham on foot. (I did not have a car, but restaurants, shops, train station and sites were in easy walking distance.) When I arrived, I found cake, fresh flowers and note from the owners to welcome me. I wish every holiday rental were like this!
The Beaumont has been very attractively updated and feels modern without taking that too far for its setting. Our room was very comfortable and clean and the house staff were very helpful. The hotels' location is perfect for exploring both Hexham and Hadrian's wall/forts. Perhaps the best feature was the quality of the food which was excellent both at breakfast and dinner, really well executed food.
The property is lovely and offered everything it said it would. Nice clean room, great coffee in the room!
If you like peace and quiet it is the place for you!
Just a word of caution re the Boat Inn nearby - it closes its kitchen at 7.30pm!! So if you are planning on an evening meal after that time then you need to go into Hexham.
Rooms and food were excellent but what made Walwick Hal stand out was the excellent service from all staff. Attentive, friendly but not overly so. The hotel grounds were beautiful and very peaceful for a real " get away from it all" break yet close enough to places of interest, Hexham etc.
It was our second time staying here and we loved every second. Very comfortable and clean. Although the property is in a beautiful rural location, it's only 10 minutes from Hexham. We visited the Abbey and had some great food. All in all a fantastic weekend and we'll definitely be back.
The rooms are well done and very clean. They lack the odd little detail (like a pot for your toothbrush) but nothing that would stop me from booking again! The food for both dinner and breakfast was excellent. The free parking is on street and available 5pm-11am with a disc from the hotel
Well placed inn, deep in northern countryside and super for access to a very wide range of attractions and walks. We were at a wedding in and arson’s Hexham so couldn’t have been better. Much better than I had imagined it would be - a very good stay indeed.
The owners, Lex and Carolyn were terrific! They were most helpful, especially with recovering a lost piece of luggage.
Beautiful property, excellent breakfast. Very convenient to Newcastle Upon Tyne airport.
A fabulous place to stay. Very comfortable with everything you should need for a family or group of friends. Thoughtful and helpful host. Perfect central location for exploring Hexham and the area.
Lovely decorated property like you were in a fancy hotel and with a garden too. I liked having two key safes. Location was good for Hexham centre and park close for dog walking
Location is really good. Hotel needs a really good update.Room was clean but nothing to make you feel cosy. Swimming pool and gym looked good but we didn’t use them.
It was nice to stay at a cozy non chain hotel. The bathroom was the largest we had since leaving my house. Even though it was above a pub it was very quiet.
