Small town. No Grab service in Chau Doc. went to Tra Su cajuput forest by Taxi, in a remote area and hard to get transportation to the forest, taxi driver waited ( I didn't ask him to wait) he wanted to make more money with the return to town trip. Basically it does not have the necessary public infrastructure to support tourists.

Chau Doc is visited mainly by tourists crossing the border between Vietnam and Cambodia. Other than a few hotel, there's not a lot to see. Although it's a nice little town with nice street food.

There is so many things to see in An Giang around Chau Doc: Sam mountain, Cam mountain, Tapa fields, lake at Tri Ton, temples and pagodas, Bung Binh Tien but my favorite was Tra Su Melaleuca forest. And of course the city of Chau Doc including some beautiful Muslim temples and a small floating market as well.

Central downtown Chau Doc is really hard to get around if you enjoy walking. Can Tho had good walking promenades and the town was OK for an avid pedestrian. Not so for Chau Doc which is overrun by motorbikes with limited walking areas, aside from the area near the river. Smelt more polluted than other places I've visited too as the streets in the downtown area are quite narrow and there's so many bikers. We stayed two nights. I'd recommend staying for one and heading straight out to the bird sanctuary and Sam Mountains which were really lovely and interesting - but lower your expectations of the town itself.

The river is great - life goes on there and watching the boats is interesting and calming, the temple end however is absolute chaos as 'pilgrims' are on a mission to spend what appears to be a very small amount of time to do their business. Cooked pigs seem to be the big bucks donation. Not exactly the equivalent of say a European Cathedral which offers peace and sanctuary, this is congested high energy and crassly commercial. As an experience it is worth it, but of course, not all experiences are that pleasant.....

Visiting Chau Doc?
Visiting Chau Doc? A walk through the markets and along the river bank is essential. Take a tour on the back of a motor bike to visit the Tra Su bird sanctuary, riding along the edge of the canal, past rice paddies, crossing the canal over old narrow bridges and paths with overhanging trees - sites you won't experience in a car or bus. Stop and tour the Cavern Pagoda - this Pagoda is amazing with great views back across the countryside. Take a ride to the top of Sam Mountain. You'll need a couple of nights to see the best of Chau Doc.
Vi and her mother are very special, as was our stay, from the warm welcome to the warm goodbye at 5am in the morning. I fell sick shortly before we arrived so the trip to Chau Doc itself was not as imagined but both women took such great care of me, supplying me with tea, fruits, soup and crackers and everything else I needed. We could without any problems extend our stay on a short notice and Vi was even kind enough to call the bus agency and change our departure. I can strongly recommend this lovely homestay!
This no-nonsense place is an exceptional value to stay in Chau Doc.
Room is clean, spacious with tall ceiling, bathroom is well designed for efficiency and comfort, glass pitcher in room with filtered water in hallway for guest use, a fridge that is also most welcome.
The proprietors are very helpful with recommendations and bookings.
Location is on quiet street, although walking distance to nearby restaurants.
For the price, I would rate this as an exceptional value.
Staff extremely friendly. She helped us to book our transport to HCM, and she organized the pick up from the hotel for us (for free). They also provide free bikes that we used to wonder around the city, and renting of motorbikes for cheap price. Free water bottles every day.
Clean room, and spacious. With comfortable bed, a fridge, and a boiler. Good location, and cheap price. Recommended!
Newly fitted and very good, generally clean room; exceptional value; plenty of working sockets; good lighting; comfortable bed; soft squishy pillows; good aircon; even a hairdryer! Good location within 10 mins walk of central market, ATMs, etc and 3 mins walk from Victoria Hotel's excellent restaurant (breakfast available for non guests at perfectly ok price and boat dock for Cambodia.)
Great no frills place to stay. They do not serve breakfast now which was a bit of a hassle (because I didn't know before I got there and in the past they did) but otherwise for an inexpensive ..lovely place to stay in Chau Doc this is the best. Very close to the river and stores. Would stay there again for sure! Lovely owner who has been around the world!
If you want to experience real authentic Vietnamese life and stay with a lovely, kind, welcoming family, this is your place! We were warmly welcomed, could join in the cooking and dining, and we had a great tour around the main tourist attractions and the countryside. We loved every bit of it. Thank you!
The room was comfortable. There are a number of options to have local food nearby. The receptionist was nice and helpful. You can rent motorbikes for 150K per day.
But attention: as the property is located inside the border area, non-Vietnamese are not allowed to stay.
The place is well located near the harbour and supermarket. The staff is welcoming and the people of the town are really friendly. The room was clean, wifi good and a smart TV was welcomed. The hotel was as expected for the price and location.
Most outstanding was the lovely English speaking young man at front desk. Helped with booking bus, getting SIM card etc. Nothing was too much trouble. Nice location. Clean hotel. Good restaurants opposite and little supermarket near by.
I was only one night in this hotel and for one night everything was comfortable. I arrived late in the evening and the staff waited for me, they also gave me water and took care of my motorcycle, thank them very much for that.
The hosts are axtremely kind and helped us organizing our trips around Chau Doc as well as a bus to go to Ha Thien. The room is really clean and the bed is big. It's well located, in between center, ferry and bus station.
Beautiful property, right by the river with a very nice swimming pool. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The restaurant is also very good (though expensive for Vietnam standards). Excellent breakfast buffet.
Everything went well. There is an elevator. It is a 15 minutes walk from the Victoria Hotel / Hang Chau ferry to Phnom Penh and 5 minutes to the market. There are Vietnamese cuisine restaurants and cafés close-by.
Staff were excellent and very caring. Food was well made and tasty. Setting was spectacular and a peaceful respite from the intensity of Vietnam. Management obviously cares about customers and staff.
The hotel had lovely touches that made it feel cozy and welcoming. Everyone was very kind and helpful while we were there. We also set up a border crossing on a boat which was excellent!
I like its location, it's close to the city center and easy to access The Lady Temple. It's not the greatest place but suitable for those who want to discover Chau Doc with low budget.
The room is small but comfortable. It's clean and cozy. We came to the hotel very late, but the landlord was enthusiastic. The hotel charge is reasonable.
