FAQs about hotels in Santiago de Compostela

A Valuable City with Rich History

The city of Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and the place where the Apostle St. James is buried. The city’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its distinguished old monuments around the Cathedral and the tomb of St. James.

Made of granite, the spectacular Baroque facade of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela features massive bell towers and statues of St. James. The Obradoiro facade of the Cathedral is one of the most exceptional examples of the Spanish Baroque period.

Surrounded by magnificent buildings, the monumental square of Plaza do Obradoiro is one of the most historic squares in the world and the heart of Santiago. You can stay in one of the hotels, guesthouses or apartments Booking.com has near this majestic square.

The final destination of the medieval pilgrimage route El Camino de Santiago, this city is the best place to enjoy fresh fish and traditional Galician bread. Galicia is the seafood capital of Spain and the right place to savor Salpicón de Mar (seafood salad) and Pulpo á Feira (octopus cooked with salt).

The Christian pilgrimage route of the Way of St. James passes by Santiago de Compostela Airport, just 9 miles away from Galicia’s capital.

Two day's is enough to see this City and the Cathedral. The Cathedral is free, but and you must pay for the museum and other sights within the complex. Not expensive. Lots of inexpensive restaurants near the Cathedral. Family run and very reasonable. Some very nice parks nearby. Plenty of shops. Very nice city to visit. very helpful people with locations, directions, etc.

We did a round trip starting in Madrid, further to Portugal and ended in Galicia. We could not have done better. Santiago de Compostela is a perfect starting point to explore Galicia and we greatly enjoyed staying there. Please note, that Santiago is the target of many pilgrims seeking spiritual inspiration. We visited Santiago in December - where only a few tourists and pilgrims were seen.

It is a great way to test your resilience, endurance.

It is a great way to test your resilience, endurance. Discovered lots of various scenaries, cultural differences with my own. Imporved my Spanish. Pilgrims are usually very kind and helpful. I did not like the number of pilgrims, too many doing just the last 100km and forcing us to book too long in advance to ensure we have space in albergues. In Galicia expect rain! Great life experience

It's a great experience architecturally, archeologically, spiritually, and gastronomically. It is one of my favorite places in the world. You can just walk around the old city and see new things all the time. If you have a chance or a calling to walk the Camino de Santiago, I highly recommend doing it!

The best place to end the Camino Primitivo. Even if the place was a ten-minute walk from the center, it was great place to stay and relax after camino. Singleroom was simple but enough. There was a little market downstairs and a big kitchen. The building has served earlier as a seminar center. There was a good and relaxed atmosphere. Gracias! The atmosphere of Santiago de Compostela is holy, cozy and friendly, despite a tourist. Many monesteries, museums, cathedrals..the old town is big, labyrinthine and so beautiful. Buen Camino and Gracias!

We loved everything about Hostal Suso! It has top boutique hotel standards all while being cozy and small and perfectly located in the old town, just a few minutes walk from the cathedral. There is a bar downstairs where you have a discount for breakfast and where the portions are huge and delicious, and many great must visit bars are close by. The staff was beyond helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Everything was impeccably clean and well maintained. Would recommend to everyone coming to Santiago.

Clean, 2 large bedrooms, location is ok 10 mins walk from old town. Hotel staff booked me a cab which was great for when I left. Being out of old town can feel a bit more like actually being in Spain not in California which is a plus. Receptionists were very nice. I was therefore surprised and really disappointed that a simple email request I made the day I left was completely ignored by the hotel, I doubt it would have been ignored if I had been a more posh hotel customer (not one from the boon docks flat.

This apartment was superior in every respect! It was extremely clean, had lovely/very comfortable furniture and was in a great downtown location. Maty was the most awesome property manager who brought us bags of fresh, local food, cheese and pastries. She also answered many questions of ours over the two days with recommendations and local information. By far the best experience from traveling all through Spain and Portugal!!!! 🥰🥰🥰

The location was fantastic - just off the central area. The owner has put a lot of effort into sound reduction. We slept peacefully through the loudest celebration of the year with a wild street party just around the corner. The owner was very helpful. The kitchen is very modern. Best washer in Spain. Wi-Fi was good. One of the reviews mentioned a loud bar below. We only saw a quiet breakfast place - recommend.

This is a very clean, modern facility still in the old part of Santiago, just across from one of my favorite little squares: Plaza San Roque. The airport bus has a stop only a minute walk from the hotel, and many good restaurants, bars and bakeries that are frequented by locals are a hop, skip and a jump away. The room was very clean and nicely layed-out.
