One of the most popular tourist destinations in Brazil, Foz do Iguaçu is located on the Brazilian side of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Iguaçu Falls. Lying on the triple frontier between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, it also has the Parque das Aves (Birds Park), the Itaipú Dam, and access to cheap shopping in the Paraguayan tax-free city of Ciudad del Este.
The word Iguaçu derives from the native Guaraní language, meaning “big water.” The spectacular falls are part of the natural frontier between Argentina and Brazil, and include 275 individual falls spread over a mile in both countries, with a maximum height of 260 feet. Its water flow can be three times that of the Niagara.
Starting as a small village, Foz grew thanks to the flow of tourists, the construction of the bridges to Paraguay and Argentina, and the work on the Itaipú Dam and Hydroelectric Plant. Some of the best hotels in Foz do Iguaçu are located along the road to the national park. Nonetheless, most Foz do Iguaçu hotels are located in and around the central area.

We underestimated the time needed in Foz do Iguaçu.
We underestimated the time needed in Foz do Iguaçu. We extended our stay by 1 night from 2 nights to 3 (moving to wonderful Hotel Sanma because With Foz do Iguaçu had no room available), but should probably have added 2 nights instead of only 1.
Count 0.5 days for Itaipu, 1 day for Iguaçu-falls Brazilian side, 1 day for Iguazu falls Argentinian side, 0.5 days for the wonderful, very instructive Parque das Aves, and 0.5 days for a quick hike through the 3 towns Foz (Bra) Ciudad del Este (Par) and Puerto Iguazu (Arg).
Make sure you travel with autorized means of transportation from one country to the other.

Forget Victoria and Niagara, this is the only one you need to see! But make sure you see both sides as they are different. The Brazilian side is beautiful, the Argentinian side is awesomely dramatic. One day is sufficient if you start at opening time then transfer by taxi to Argentina and stay in a hotel there at the end.

Because the hotel is in the national park, we had several hours in the morning of the Iguacu Falls to ourselves. So beautiful with the sun coming up. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Just a great experience!

Iguazu Falls - definitely worth visiting, but check tickets before you go as you might end up in a very long queue. Hotels offer to buy (not too big $$ difference). Birds park worth visiting as well as popping in to Argentina.

The Falls is a must see place to get a balanced impression of the magnificence of this natural wonder. Getting there is quite easy if you speak Portuguese/Spanish or are more adventurous, to take a local bus to and from the Falls and adjacent Bird Park - both excellent options with easy hiking trails. Uber and 99 are good options too or taxi - but be prepared for taxi drivers to drive up the price 400%.
There are a number of restaurants in the park where you can stop for a bite or to refresh. Toilets are adjacent to restaurants.
The trails are clearly marked and easy to navigate.

Foz do Iguaçu is a great city with lots of opportunities.
Foz do Iguaçu is a great city with lots of opportunities. Obviously the waterfalls is a must visit while staying in Foz. The transport there, you can take an Uber, but the Bus line 120 will take you the for just 5 reais. The Parque das Aves is also something I would recommend. For dining I would go to Bel Viale restaurant, great food to cheap prices!
The Staff were all very friendly - very cheerful greetings on first day. They also helped us organise taxi from Foz do Iguacu to Puerto Iguazu on our last day, translated conversation with taxi driver for us.
Rooms were clean. Hotel corridors were very clean.
Breakfast was good (really good scrambled eggs).
Location was fine - short walk to bus terminal for the bus to the falls (line 120 which costs R$ per person - need to buy a ticket before you get on the bus).
Nice outer courtyard with tables for eating takeaway food.
Air con was good.
Hotel is located in the town of Iguacu and close to shopping and restaurants. We used Uber to get to the Falls and stored our luggage at the lockers while we visited the falls. The Falls themselves are very close to the airport and a short taxi ride.
The hotel was fine for a one-night stay. There was a large breakfast included, buffet style. The room was quite large and facilities were good. Very good value for money.
The location was excellent because I was sick and next to and in front of the hotel there was a pharmacy, plus we could walk to some restaurants. The breakfast was excellent, many options, all tasty and also with a terrace in case we wanted to eat outside. The pool and jacuzzis are a great addition to have a relaxing day at the hotel and almost no guests use them. A large and comfortable lobby area to wait for an Uber.
The staff was very helpful - accommodated the "parking" of my rented bicycle overnight, and allowed me to stay (for a fee) till evening till the departure of my bus.
The hotel is within a short walking distance from the bus terminal. From the last (or last but one?) floor where my room was, there was a good view over a large part of the city, including the Viewing Wheel near the Marco das Três Fronteiras.
The hotel is perfectly placed for easy access to the terminal urbano de buses which has the buses that go to Iguazu Falls and other tourist places en Foz. There are also shops and places to eat nearby. The staff are extremely welcoming and helped me with various queries. The rooms are basic but fine for the price and I slept well. The wifi connection was also good.
Great location with a yummy restaurante right next door and attentive and helpful staff. Really great breakfast. Walking distance from the maim shopping street. We had to check out hours before our bus left and the hotel let us leave our luggage in a safe place at the hotel.
Our stay at Pousada Rio Das Aguas was one of the best stays in our 38 years of traveling. The hospitality we received was over the top and the meals Adriana prepared each morning was exceptional. We highly recommend if in Foz Do Iguacu to consider PousadaRio Das Aguas.
The pools are very good, the hotel has a travel service which can be used to schedule trips. The hotel offers transportation from the airport to the hotel (only) and it has to be scheduled in advance.
