The town itself is not particularly picturesque, but the surrounding beaches, scenery and landscape are majestic. It's good base for exploring the area and for getting boats to other areas as well as Mount Athos.

Great town for food and multicultural experiences. Bad town to be in if it's raining as the power grid immediately fails and there are only a few places that have their own generators. If you decide to go to Ouranoupoli is a must to rent a boat.
If you decide to go to Ouranoupoli is a must to rent a boat. The cost is 70 eur/day (without permit) and you can go to Ammouliani and Drenia Islans by your self. There you can find restaurants with excellent food. You can stop in any area you want where you can spend some quality time. I recommend the local pies with vanilla / apples / cheese / spinach...

An excellent starting place to visit Atos Monasteries by males while you (females) swim or sunbathe or drink on the beach :) You can enjoy delicious food or good house wine in various small restaurants along the shore. There are some prejudices about this city. Although I visited this city many times with my wife, we did not encounter anything that would disturb us. It is a very calm and peaceful city and its people are also very kind. Also, the food in the restaurants is very tasty, the prices are reasonable.
