Known for beautifully undulating coastline attracting a wealth of wildlife, laid-back Monterey is on a small peninsula. Though now more famous for Monterey Jack cheese, it was once an important sardine fishing town. Some former canning factories now house galleries and shops on a street renamed Cannery Row after a novel by John Steinbeck. A museum and his former home in nearby Salinas can be visited.
The fantastic Monterey Bay Aquarium houses a fascinating range of local sealife, which is so prevalent here that you can often see seals basking on craggy beaches, or sea lions roaring away under piers in Fisherman’s Wharf. Whalewatching tours also depart from here.
South is the Monterey State Historic Park, site of historic buildings including Custom House and the Old Whaling Station with a path made from whalebone. To the east are a couple of Monterey hotels on the beach on Booking.com, and there are also several Monterey hotels with indoor pools.
Right by Monterey Peninsula Airport is one of the city’s 7 golf courses, and there are 3 golf courses near the Laguna Seca Raceway.
Whether you’re here for the Monterey Jazz Festival, or for driving the Big Sur Pacific coast road to the south, if you’re staying with kids, don’t forget to check out the Dennis the Menace Park.
Visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Pre-book tickets online to avoid the ticket lines. Get their map and event schedule and get to events about 15 minutes prior for best positioning. Parking and food is cheaper the farther away from aquarium you go.

Getting around Monterey is so easy!
Getting around Monterey is so easy! For tourists, there are only a couple of main streets. Cannery Row is a great place to be—bicycle rides, some of the best burgers in town, and Starbucks. I love the old feel of Fisherman Wharf, with some of the best seafood in the county. I was thrilled with it all. I try to get down there a couple of times a year. It has excellent beaches!

This is one of the most beautiful places in California with the Peninsula to the North and Carmel to Big Sur to the South Redwoods and spectacular sea scape . I felt that this motel/hotel was well furnished internally. The room itself was very good in fact stylish just didn't think it was value for the money compared to the the 8 other recent Hotels we have stayed at in the last month.

Street signage is sporadic and haphazard.
Street signage is sporadic and haphazard. Even with maps, navigating the city is a bit frustrating. Some roads seem to have been designed by monkeys throwing darts. The only redemption is the ocean, aquarium, and proximity to Laguna Seca Raceway. Avoid the Monterey Tides hotel; 2 star, at best, quality at 5 star prices.
We enjoyed so much about our stay. We had one of the best views we could have asked for, the room was very chic and the hotel itself is gorgeous. The location is one of the best in downtown Monterey. I will be honest, when deciding on which hotel to book knowing this one is a pet friendly hotel I was worried about the condition our room would be in (smell and cleanliness) but if a dog had ever been in our room before we would never know it! The stay overall was fantastic.
I like how they tried to get the lowest level room as possible since my father is a senior and has a hard time to walk and there is no elevator. They accept our dogs at the hotel and cheap rate for them to stay at the hotel. The room was decent and we were close to the pool and had a pretty good view. Close drive to the freeway and Monterey downtown, Fishermans wharf. Gas station is right in the same parking lot as the hotel.
Nice quiet hotel, friendly staff and good location not too far from downtown Monterey.
Beds were comfortable and the breakfast on offer was good but not great, typical of a Best Western.
There aren't too many food options close by but we did find a Vietnamese place a few hundred meters up the road which did ok for our one night there.
Well-maintained property with attractive landscaping and rooms. We enjoyed delicious tapas in the restaurant and use of the free bikes to ride the waterfront trail. Although not mentioned on the website, the room also had a mini-fridge. Lastly, from the hotel it’s a short walk to lots of dining in Old Monterey and Fishermans Wharf.
Read reviews only after booking Hotel Pacific and was a little worried abt the hotel room and some of the not-quite-good reviews.
Upon checking in, we are quite pleased with the cleanliness of the room and the size was good for our family of 4.
Bed & restroom are clean, Breakfast was decent with bacon & bread/pastry.
The location is perfect because it’s close to the water, restaurants, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Cannery Row. The hotel was clean, breakfast was consistent, and coffee ready to go. The hot breakfast wasn’t very good. However, would definitely return to this hotel!
The Cannery Row location was convenient, with restaurants located on the waterfront, gift and souvenir shops, and right next to the water front trail. The parking situation simple. We didn't need to cross any traffic to access the garage.
Comfortable accommodation, clean and tidy. Only 20 minutes slow walk to the wharf, cannery row was easy walking distance, safe for my friend and I to walk at six in the morning. Only a ten minute drive from hotel to Carmel
I really enjoyed the location, downtown Monterey. And walking distance to many restaurants. Enjoyed the cleanliness and comfortable hotel stay and restaurant and bar. Excellent hotel staff and great valet personnel’s.
The view and location were great, along with the reception and bar area. This is what led us to book the Monterey Tides hotel, however, the experience was quite different in reality and did not live up to expectations
Loved this hotel
Location is brilliant, we have stayed in Monterey a few times and this was my first time at this hotel loved it
Staff great, shout out to Gloria on reception she was fab, room lovely
Very comfortable hotel with a pool and well positioned next to a diner and the Amtrak thru bus stop. Also near a few good restaurants and the trolley to get to Fisherman’s Wharf and Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Very accommodating and friendly staff when we asked to check in early. Plenty of parking options and rooms were a good size for a couple of days in Monterey.
Can walk to Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row.
very clean. A nice basic hotel. What you see is what you get. A good value for the area. Staff very helpful and friendly. Liked the indoor pool (heated) since it’s cold in Monterey.
This is a basic but clean hotel. The price is very good considering how expensive hotels in Monterey are. Close proximity to the beach and the Pacific Coast Highway.
