Portland is a walkable city.
Portland is a walkable city. Too many wonderful restaurants for one trip!
My favorites from this trip: Fore Street Restaurant, Honey Paw, and Jing Yan. My husband loved Bar Futo and the bar at Via Vecchia.

We live in Massachusetts, but we love visiting Maine.
We live in Massachusetts, but we love visiting Maine. We usually stop at the Kittery Trading Post along our drive. In Portland we like to take in historical homes and sites like the Victorian Mansion or the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow home. There are lots of restaurants and pubs in the waterfront area. One of our favorites is the Ri' Ra' where I typically enjoy a Guinness with the fish and chips.

My work in Portland shows me a diverse striving community that is trying to care for its citizens. That diversity is revealed through exploring the shops underneath and around the "Hopeful" sculpture/sign on Forest Ave.

Best seafood ever.
Best seafood ever. Very nice restaurants and bars and excellent, friendly service in all places. Nice little interior or similar shops. Some more or less interesting galleries, interesting Arts Museum. But two full days are enough for visiting downtown Portland.
Lovely hiking trails at about 30 minutes from the town.
The Francis is located in a quiet neighborhood, but it is still within walking distance of many restaurants, bars, and shops. It is also a short drive to the Old Port and other popular tourist destinations. The rooms and common areas at The Francis are very clean and well-maintained. The beds are comfortable and the linens are fresh and clean. The Francis is housed in a historic building that has been beautifully restored. The hotel has a lot of character and charm.
This was one of the cleanest and well kept hotels we ever stayed at. It looked rather new.
Portland Sea Dogs are about a 5 minute walk. Minor league baseball is very inexpensive compared to MLB and just as fun.
The Old Port was a bit of a walk, about 45 minutes. We took Congress St. thru downtown. It was a nice easy walk both mornings and evenings. Parking downtown is expensive. If you don’t mind a nice walk it’s worth it. Plus you get to walk thru downtown.
Its really all about the location in Portland! The hotel rooms themselves felt a little old, but they were clean and the lobby was really nice. I very much believe that anywhere you stay is going to be similar pricing and you have to pay for valet anywhere on the waterfront, but you might find a more modern hotel for the $400 a night rate if you do a little searching. But really - it was fine for what it is and we were not there to hang out in the hotel anyway.
The front entrance of the hotel was a bit difficult to find. No breakfast or a complimentary snack/drink. The room and walkway had a mold smell. The bedding was a bit dirty. The vending machine was out of order and it appeared that there was only one vending machine. The location was a bit further out of downtown Portland for the price. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was not good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Outstanding location with extremely friendly staff. The room was beautiful. And we really do love the Regency, because it is a gorgeous 4 star hotel in the heart of the old port but not pretentious or stuffy. All the staff welcome you like you’re family! Their outdoor bistro is so lovely under the trees and the food is excellent!
The price was reasonable for Portland. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Despite being located out of town, its proximity to the transportation center made it ideal for those using train or bus services, especially the very cheap bus service to central Portland. The gym and pool were OK and very quiet/ barely used.
Location right in the heart of Portland Waterfront. Accessible walk to restaurants and pubs.
Parking was next store and easy to access. A car is not needed to visit the downtown.
Breakfast was included and fairly standard.
Staff gave water bottles upon arrival.
This is my favorite hostel I have ever used. Cheery, obliging staff, quirky decor, convenient and immaculate bathrooms, sensible method for secure late-night entry; short walk from downtown and from the waterfront.
The hot breakfast was very good, substantial and had plenty of healthy options, which was appreciated. The staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The hotel was clean overall, and the room was great.
