La Spezia is one of those typical cities of the Liguria Region where colourful houses cover hills and cliffs, providing panoramic views over the sea. Thousands of years of history and a heart open towards the sea have shaped the character of this town surrounded by the 'Cinque Terre'.
Located on the coast of the namesake gulf, its proximity to Genoa has greatly influenced its development and culture. Take a walk uphill from the harbour, and admire the display of architectonic styles in the Old Town. Some of the best hotels in La Spezia are located here, while elegant guesthouses and villas with gulf views can be found in the highest areas.
Must-see sites in the city are the 13th-century Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St George’s Castle. The ‘Sea Festival’ is organized every summer, and its highlight is the rowing competition ‘Palio del Golfo’, a race between the 13 villages of the gulf. Departing from the port of La Spezia, boats can take you to the enchanted ‘Cinque Terre’.
The harbour is a 15-minute walk from La Spezia Central Station, and Genoa’s Cristoforo Colombo Airport is 105 km away. While planning your trip, check out Booking.com’s accommodation deals in La Spezia.

We are a family of 3 with a small child of 4 years age. We planned our itinery based on the weather forecast. We visited Cinque Terre for 1.5 days, followed by Pisa + Lucca on a day and rounded our trip by visiting the top attractions in La Spezia for few hours. I liked visiting the technical naval museum, crossing The Thaon di Revel Bridge walking along ,Costantino Morin Promenade, strolling through Via Del Prione & Corso Cavour. My son loved playing at the play area in Public Gardens. We loved eating Farinata @ Murphy's in La Spezia.

La Spezia was a great place to be based to visit Cinque Terre. The town does have a lot of graffiti though, which we initially regarded as being off putting, however we did not feel unsafe when we were there.

La Spezia is a great place to stay if doing the Cinque Terre trail. It is a nice spot with lots of shops and restaurants. November seems to be a quiet time for the area, we imagine it would have been busier and more atmospheric during summer months.

Beautiful town.
Beautiful town. Wish we had more time to spend another day there. We stayed overnight there so we could use the hop on hop off ferry to the Cinque Terre. Ferry as nice. Then took train back to La Spezia. Beautiful little city. We walked to the boat dock through the town. Lovely walk and harbor is very pretty. Got some delicious pastries in the morning, but we have no idea what they were - unfortunately. Also unfortunately we didn't get a chance to see anything else LaSpezia has to offer. I hope you do.

Listen .. if you are planning a 3-5 day exploration of Cinque Terre, use La Spezia as you base of operations. It is cheaper compared to renting a place in Cinque Terre. For me , it was a 12 minute walk to my accommodation. I could have taken a bus but La Spezia is very clean, no pollution. It is by the sea after all. If you find accommodations in Cinque Terre itself, its expensive relatively and you face the prospect of lugging your suitcases up and down steps, while thru claustrophobic alleyways . Cinque Terre towns are practically hills, homes and B&Bs are smacked right into the side of hilly country, side by side. In the evenings, if yoru schedule will allow for it, go for a scroll at the marina. Go La Spezia..

I picked La Spezia as our location mostly for our visit to Cinque Terre. It was easily reached by car and convenient to access the ferry & train.
La Spezia was also very beautiful and had great restaurant options.
Loved it! The hotel met our expectations and then some. It's the perfect location for exploring the charming city of La Spezia. The train station is within walking distance and a perfect way to experience Cinque Terre. We even took a trip up the coast to visit Genoa. The breakfast buffet was outstanding - everything you could want and more. Cappuccinos! The staff was very helpful and friendly. the only downside was that the internet was spotty and didn't work in our room at all. Not a dealbreaker, but worth noting.
The rooms are very nice, modern and clean. Our room was very spacious with a big bathroom, comfortable beds and a very strong air conditioner (which was important during the hot summer). The location of the hotel is close to La Spezia Centrale where you can quickly take the train to the neighboring cities. Bars, markets and restaurants are all conveniently within short walk. The manager is very helpful with accommodation requests. Highly recommend this location.
This hotel is just across the road from the La Spezia train station, making it a perfect lodging to start exploring the cinque terre. The property is nicely furnished with a homely feel.
My room was very clean, and their service was very good.
Very nice shampoo and shower gels are also provided. Staff are amazing, friendly and speedy.
Breakfast was excellent. A wonderful idea to stay here and not drag your luggage to the towns of Cinque Terra.
Nice house high up on a hill in the countryside overlooking La Spezia with a very friendly host who speaks good English if you're Italian isn't too good.
Rustic feel and accommodation clean and with heating
Bedding (blankets) and quite basic room compared to other similar standard accommodation we stayed at in Italy
Only stayed one night in October but the outside areas appeared good for summer stays
Free parking outside property
It is one of the best city hotel i've ever stayed. Mr Massimo is super kind and helpful. He contacted me before we reach Spezia, help us all the way, made good suggestions. It is a family hotel, everything is exactly like in photos. he thought everything even the mosquito protection. His wife is cleaning room like her own house. So i couldn't imagine a better hotel. If i come La Spezia again, definitely i will stay here again 😇🙏
The host was so accommodating to us. There was a train strike while we were there so we had to change all of our plans. He allowed us to stay in the room a little longer so we could make it it Cinque Terre.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The beds were incredible. We had the best sleep in all of Italy.
This was a very nice place to stay if you want to stay in La Spezia.
The location was about 50 steps from the train station entry, but the room was VERY quiet at night. If you want to plan a visit to Cinque Terre for a day, I highly recommend it. La Spezia is a great access point for trains and has more stores/restaurants that are open in the winter months compared to some of the towns in Cinque Terre. The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful.
Location was less than 5 mins walk from la spezia central station. It was a easy walk down the street. Owners of the place were friendly and communicated well, we arrived earlier than check-in time and the room was prepared and ready for us. Instructions were also simple and easy to follow. Room was really clean and as per photos. Will come back if I were to visit Italy again!
Everything was amazing!!! Location very convenient, 10 minutes walking from La Spezia Centrale Station, near to restaurants and nice area.
The room was perfectly clean, with everything you need, and also so beautiful. Loved the bath. We couldn’t choose better place to finish our trip for Italy.
The communication was always good and helpful. Absolutely recommend!!!!
We had a lovely welcome from the owner. Our room was small, but very romatic and super clean. Amazing view from our room and from the hotel terrace. Nice italian breakfast with brioche, jam, butter and coffee. Highly recommend a car! We did tours to see cinque terre ( 15 min to La spezia main station), but the place would also be nice to go hiking! Great stay!
A very kind and considerate owner or employer explained everything about the room and tourist places around. The best service we found around all hotels that we stayed in Italy. Extremely helpful with the luggage bags as there was no lift in the building
The staff in this hotel is really great, smiling, always helping and with a big deal of service. This is a simple hotel, easy to find by car coming to La Spezia. They have a shuttle bus going from the hotel and downtown. Nice and clean.
Great location, very close to train station. Brand new, super clean and spacious apartment. Amazing host that went above and beyond to make our stay in La Spezia an unforgettable memory. All recommendations for the place!
Well equiped apartment with breathtaken view to La Spezia. Convinient check-in with free parking near house. Close to Train Station - only 6 min by car. My kids was very happy finding toys and books in Sylivia's House.
Centrally located. Close to the train station. Great air conditioner. Good size bathroom. The room is much larger than the other hotel rooms that we have stayed at while in Italy.
The hotel is well located facing the train station. The staff especially Louis are kind and smiling. The cause of the foundation in helping people with autism is fantastic!
Amazing hotel, great pool overlooking La Spezia and nice staff. Also a good location if you want to visit the Cinque Terre. Breakfast also very good. Clear recommendation!
