Mantova has been the biggest surprise of our 8-day trip...
Mantova has been the biggest surprise of our 8-day trip through Tuscany and its surroundings. We came here at the insistence of friends who live in Italy, and we are thrilled. The city is beautiful, with impressive architecture, monumental squares, and a lively atmosphere that pulses through its streets. There aren't too many tourists around, which makes it even more appealing. We happened to arrive at a momentous time when the Mantova football club secured the top spot in Serie C, and we witnessed the celebrations and festivities throughout the city center, adding to the vibrant feel of the place. A culturally rich and safe place with excellent restaurants, interesting people, and opportunities for a longer stay. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful city with plenty to see for a few days and much longer could have been spent just wandering the historic, cobbled streets and enjoying the plentiful restaurants, cafes and bars. It was off season so quiet - not crowded like Verona. We visited the theatre, of which there are several, and most of the sights, but 2 days wasn't enough time to cover everything. No car needed - walked everywhere. Train station was very central.

Amazing town, small, but with a lot to see and enjoy.
Amazing town, small, but with a lot to see and enjoy. A mixture of Emilia and Lombardy culture, especially about food, but with its own local exclusivity. I wonder why I've never visited earlier in my life!

Mantova is perfect for a day trip.
Mantova is perfect for a day trip. The center is the size of a postage stamp. The Palazzo Ducale and the Palazzo Te are not to be missed. Both really special for art, architecture and history lovers. Beyond my expectations.

Mantova was an unexpected gem, we had not heard much about it but took the chance on adding it to our trip and we were not disappointed.
There are so many beautiful buildings, and the Ducal Palace and Palazzo Te are some of the most impressive interiors we've seen in Italy. The Ducale Palace covers an enormous range of styles ranging over hundreds of years. Be prepared for a lot of walking inside the palace
There was a huge range of restaurants and bars to choose from and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Mantova is a charming small town full of history and things...
Mantova is a charming small town full of history and things to see. Initially all the narrow streets are confusing but it doesn't take long to find your way around. The 3 lakes add to the beauty of the place, every morning a walk around part of the lakes made a perfect start to the day. We were very sad to leave and will definitely return and we will stay at Casa al Teatro again for sure.
Free mini bar in our room and free coffee available all day in the breakfast room. The Continental breakfast was good with great local pastries available. The staff were very friendly and helpful and reception was open for much longer hours than we'd come to expect in the smaller Italian hotels.
There's a recent internal renovation and the hotel is very fresh and comfortable.
We would happily stay there again.
The staff in the restaurant at breakfast were phenomenal, and in general, the service here is extremely considerate. We were there with our 15-month-old toddler who was beginning to walk independently. The hotel location is fabulous, allowing us to take breaks in between to refresh ourselves before heading out again. The property felt well maintained and the elevator was a blessing. We would recommend it.
Our host was very kind, accomodating, and helpful. The room was not far from the train station, and also very close to the historical center of the city. While the room was a little bit smaller than we had expected, it was very neat, tidy, and well equipped, with a good breakfast and a free minibar. I would strongly recommend staying at B&b art boutique if you decide to visit Mantova for a short stay.
Veronica is the perfect host in this small and comfortable, beautiful Italian ‘casa’.
She can tell you everything about Mantova and environment. Everyday she makes a very tasteful breakfast with delicious Italian specialities. We loved it. After a warm day in the city the pool is a good refreshment. The climate in the house it very comfortable and adjustable at your wish. We will come again!
A really perfect stay. The hotel itself is a wonderful surprise: not only nice to stay in, but stylish to look at. Breakfast is truly splendid - it is almost brunch-like, which is quite rare in Italy. Additionally, throughout the day, hot tea and coffee are free. The rooms are comfy and generous in size. Lastly, the hotel is a 15/20 minutes walking distance from all major sites.
Absolutely fantastic location. Reception staff is absolutely great, guiding us through the limited traffic zone. We were upgraded to a very nice suite with wonderful view. Beds are good, bathroom too. Not too noisy, because quiet time of the year (in summer it may be more noisy). Car is parked by hotel in garage nearby. Good breakfast (a bit standard hotel-style).
Cristina was wonderful. Very accommodating and helpful. A wealth of local information, helped us with early check in, laundry, getting a taxi back to the train, she was the best hostess. The location was very central to the sights and Cristina gave us good tips on the Mantova pass. She helped us with restaurant suggestions and reservations. Highly recommended.
The Gonzaga is a high quality 3 star Hotel, located right in the centre of Mantova and was ideal for my wife who had access to all the galleries and museums, as well as having quiet working time and perfect wi-fi.
Breakfast was excellent and informal.
Would I stay there again? Definitely
The place was really the room was clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was served and a terrace or a balcony. Very quiet and welcoming. Breakfast was traditional Italian and very good. The owner was friendly and helpful. I would definitely today there again when in mantova.
The rooms were exceptionally large, comfortable and beautifully setup. The hotel was very modern, yet still had the feel of old Italy. The location was outstanding and close to many important sites. The hotel staff was very friendly and exceedingly helpful.
Excellent breakfast and a very kind host. I am sorry that I could not have stayed longer. People who I knew staying at local hotels did not get this level of service. Great location close to the railway station, and five minute's walk from the town centre.
Very nice stay. The location is perfect, easy to reach by car and few minutes' walk from the center. Owners are super nice, the room was very large and comfortable. The owners even reserved a parking spot for us so we could park next to the hotel.
Location was excellent. Loved the roominess of the place. Feels very high end. You get can everywhere in Mantova really easily. Friendly hosts. Whenever we needed things (kitchenware etc.), it was provided quickly. Excellent experience.
It is a rail station hotel, nothing to write home about, but cozy and clean. Our room was on ground floor and had a sweet little balcony to enjoy breakfast on. The staff was nice and helpful.
