A political center and favorite residence of Charlemagne, Aachen is located in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia region. A spa town since Ancient Roman times, it has some of the hottest springs in Europe. Its Old Town keeps important architectonic jewels, like the Cathedral ordered by Charlemagne in 786, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
With a unique mix of styles, the Cathedral is the final resting place for Charlemagne’s remains, and served as coronation church for 30 German kings and 12 queens. Guesthouses and hotels in Aachen’s historic center are a romantic way of enjoying the city.
The RWTH University is one of the country’s "Universities of Excellence", part of the technologic profile of a city that is regarded as one of the most innovative in Germany. In fact, a large number of Aachen hotels have congress facilities.
It is located 40 miles from Cologne and 24 miles from Maastricht/Aachen Airport. Connections to major European capitals are available from the central train station, while several hotels nearby will help you to avoid the last-minute rush.

Aachen has a lot of important and interesting history to offer. But this is not the only reason to visit the city as it is one of the few places left in what could be called the old Germany, a country of tradition, character and values. It was refreshing to find that this still exists in possibly Europe's strongest country.

Aachen is older than the Hungarian statehood itself.
Aachen is older than the Hungarian statehood itself. A wondrous city just next to the German-Dutch-Belgian border tripoint. I am Hungarian, and it was great to see how much it is connected to Hungary. We are about a thousand kilometres from my hometown, yet it was great to see Saint Stephen I in the garden of the cathedral, the statue of St. Ladislaus inside the Hungarian chapel. That was founded by Louis I (Louis the Great) of Hungary in the 1370s. My favourite place was the cathedral. I have also been to the tripoint itself.

We went to Aachen for the Christmas market, so we only stayed for one night. All in all, that part of our trip was worth it.
That being said, Aachen, when compared to cities of similar size, didn't leave a good impression. Especially the graffiti (not the good kind) around every corner is jarring.

Very similar to York - so praise indeed.
Very similar to York - so praise indeed.
No river or walls but a delightful, compact, walkable city centre with the ancient Cathedral and old buildings - and great pubs. Also a great base to visit Liege (Bel) and Maastricht (Ne) with which Aachen forms a triangle
There is a lovely sauna (2 with different temperatures) and a swimming pool. It was included when I booked but policy changed and now you have to pay 9€ when you want to make use of them. Staff was helpful with this. Breakfast is 13€ per person per morning. It is located around half an hour walk from the city centre but there is a nice path through a long stretched park. There are also busses going to and fro the center to close to the hotel. The view is not on a park but you don’t look into another building directly so it was good.
The entire Aachen Innenstadt (old town) is on your doorstep with many charming restaurants and shops around the corner and in countless hidden alleys surrounding the cathedral. We had a large room and two big windows in the older section of the hotel (3 steps down not wheelchair accessible but all other rooms are). There is a modern lift. The room had everything we needed with a built in writing desk and lots of storage plus two spots to set your suitcases. Excellent breakfast buffet with lots of choices.
Staff was kind, the room was neat.
Not a lot of noises coming from the corridor.
The breakfast was also nice. The staff member told us that between 9 am and 11 am there are a lot of people for breakfast on weekends and... He was right. Better to go around 7.30 am.
The hotel is not far from the city centre (8 min drive more or less).
The hotel was perfectly located, close to the train station and on walking distance from the city center. The rooms were clean and all the facilities (towels, toileteries...) were provided for. The check-in and check-out also went very smooth. Even though we arrived earlier than the usual check-in, that was no problem.
The Hotel more than meets its 3* rating. In a good position about a 10 minute walk to the City centre, there is secure onsite parking which is important to me.
Rooms adequate for a short stay and a good breakfast offered.
Enjoyed relaxing the bar in the evening where snacks e.g. pizza available.
Very good value. Very clean and comfortable with excellent bathroom. Breakfast good. Restaurant for evening meals very very basic (average pizza, burger or schnitzel & frites) but no other possibilities for eating outside the hotel other than going into the centre of Aachen.-
Staff very pleasant.
Its a spacious well fitted out attic apartment, very warm (in February) and exceptionally quiet, looking out over woodland. Our host was amazingly helpful. We hired bikes and explored the Vennbahn cycle track and commuting into Aachen city centre or by train to Cologne was incredibly easy.
Hotel is located quite close to the city centre so there was no problem for us to walk there for the dinner and general walk.
We had a big corner room, with the view to the square. Beds were really good, everything worked pretty okay.
Staff was friendly and we had no problem at all.
I have used the same hotel for many years so I know exactly how it is. Ibis Budget in general suits my needs best. All I need is a place to sleep which is cheap, easy to book and easy to reach. Everything in the room was clean and in working order, which is all I require.
The room was comfortable and clean; the restaurant was one of the best during our trip. We were traveling Frankfurt to Brussels and this location was perfect being about halfway between and easy to find being right off the highway. Also close to Aachen and Hurtgen Forest.
The hotel is a little dated, but is a lovely place to stay nonetheless. It's conveniently located near the central city and walking to places of interest was easy. Getting here from the train station was quite far on foot, but would be convenient if you were driving.
The location is absolutely great, close to the centre and to the train station which was a perfect solution to us. The hotel itself is a bit old but it is the city centre, the room was really huge with a nice balcony and all in all it was very cozy!
It was a very comfortable hotel in a perfect location for exploring Aachen city centre. All staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was not provided but there were so many great options for eating just outside the door.
The good part is the hotel is centrally located, walking distance from the city centre. The rooms were clean, spacious, airy and had a city view.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with variety.
The Art Hotel Superior is approx 2 km from the city centre of Aachen. It is a quiet hotel, with its own parking and good facilities. My room was spacious, also good bathroom, and also the buffet breakfast was very good.
Very welcoming and friendly staff, excellent breakfast and strategic position near the city centre ! What esle to add, just perfect ! Even parking lots are available inside and outside the hotel, so no need to worry.
It was a pleasant stay. The hotel is very well located, a few minutes walk from the city centre. Convenient underground parking. The stuff was very polite and helpful. Breakfast is wonderful.
We stayed two nights and were happy with the hotel, the room and the staff. Very convenient parking in the (public) parking garage under the hotel. Easy walking distance to the city centre.
Very nice hotel in the heart of Aachen.
Comfortable room, nice and clean bathroom...everything OK.
Three receptionist very kind and helpful. Thank you 😊!
